Can anyone recommend a good exercise DVD? I am looking for something that is mostly cardio (want to get the heart rate elevated), but that will tone some muscles too.
The last time I was on this kick, I bought one of those Billy Blanks Tae Bo Celebrity Fit DVDs. It was waaay too hard for me and I lost motivation. I could barely get through the first 10 minutes.
I’ve thought about pilates, but I don’t know if that is something you need instruction to learn and whether it is enough cardio or not.
I’d really appreciate any suggestions!

Most people think of P90x as extreme but they have a “lean” outlined guide to follow with mostly cardio but also some core and other strenght resistance. I loved P90x, although a bit expensive, and even though I don’t do it for 3 straight months it has a LOT of video that I can pop and whatever workout I want whenever I want. There’s variety that way. . .
Definitly saw differences – so did others!
I say worth the investment. lots of people I know have it already – maybe you could borrow one from a friend and see if you like it.

@EleanorRigby: Okay, so I would totally suggest you get on Amazon.com and buy the Women’s Health DVDs. The two that I have are: ‘The Wedding Workout’, and also ‘Train for your Body Type’. I think they’re both fabulous, not too much, but just enough! The workouts can be customizable, or they have pre-built workouts for the week already set up.
The DVDs are only like $6 or $7 a piece, so you’re not out much if you don’t like them. I just love them though!

I use Jackie’s circuit training DVD. It’s amazing–hard at first, but you get fit fast!

I like Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred because it’s short, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I find if I can push myself through the first few days it does get easier, but it takes some motivation to get through those early days of feeling like you are going to die!

I know that people on here talk about these ALL the time but I highly recommend any Jillian Michaels. My favorite is the 6 week 6 pack. You get cardio and toning and it’s not all ab toning either. I’ve seen more definition in my abs, arms, thighs and back!
Her 30 Day Shred is also fabulous.
Anddd her DVDs are relatively inexpensive also. I think they’re 7 or 8 dollars at Target!

I’ve got the 30 Day Shred DVD coming to me very soon. Hopefully the working out I’ve been doing will have me somewhat prepared, so I don’t feel like I’m dying!

So would you say Jillian Micahels “The Shred” is considered cardio? I never tried it, but thought it was just abs/strength training. Does it get your heart rate elevated?

@EleanorRigby: It definitely gets your heart rate up! It is a circuit training model with strength, cardio, and abs. It’s only 2 minutes at a time, but she does pack a lot of jumping around in there.

Well, since I posted this I actually got the Shred from someone and did Level One. I don’t have weights though, so I just used pillar candles… probably not effective, but it was all I could come up with.
I thought the abs was really easy, but the cardio and legs were hard for me. My legs literally feel like jello. I really like that it is only 20 minutes though. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions!

@ST2011:Definitely agree with the P90X, you can make it as extreme or lean as you want!! I lost most of my weight and got to my wedding weight early by doing these videos.
Currently I’m doing Brazil Butt Lift by Beachbody and I love it. There are sculpting videos, dance videos and cardio video…all the tone the core and butt!!!
I’ve done some Jillian Michaels videos, but I get bored and like the programs better. Rev Abs by the new trainer on Biggest Loser (the dude, Brett Hoeble) is really good too and it’s not just for the abs!

I agree with previous posters–Jillian Michaels has the best DVDs around. I just got back into doing 30DS this week, but I also love No More Trouble Zones (it’s a little longer than the Shred, but works more muscles) and 6 week 6 pack (ouch! my abs!). Target sells this 30DS kit that’s a workout mat and a couple 3-lb dumbbells, it’s all you need for any of these DVDs–though I use a 5-lb dumbbell for 6W6P.

@EleanorRigby: I’m a Jillian Michaels addict and if you’re looking for abs pick up her Six Week Six Pack DVD. Really the only one of hers I don’t like is the Metabolism one.

Do you have Netflix by any chance? If you do – they have a bunch of different work out videos on demand that you can watch on your computer or TV(if you have a Wii/Xbox/DVD player that connects to Netflix).
I’ve been using the Self and Crunch ones on there and have been sweating! Best of all…they’re free!

@EleanorRigby:When I don’t have weights with me I use cans of soup or bottles of water! Last week my sister used cans of pumpkin puree! Hahaha
