akk380:  Well, mine is because I’m pregnant so that might be a different deal, but here’s my experience so far. Hiking, running and sometimes cycling seem to make it worse. Short (30 mins) walks on flatter terrain seem to help, most of the time (with stretching afterwards). Yoga, some circuit/core moves and swimming definitely help. I was planning on googling “yoga for sciatica” and so on and see if I can find some youtube videos or something. Good luck to you- I feel your pain! I hope yours gets better soon!

I have this due to hurniated discs in my lower back. On days it flares up i just do arms and back and walk at the gym. When I feel better I use the eliptical due to the no impact. I usually feel better when I am more consistant at the gym.

A stationary bike or the pool is your best bet.  No impact, twisting, or bending.  Make sure you still take it easy if you do those because you can still hurt your back if you go “too hard”.  I work in an orthopedic and neuro office and that is what we recommend to most patients.  The part that sucks the most is you just have to take it easy until it heals because you can make it worse.
