First we tried Faunbrook. Totally ready to sign until the contract arrived. It’s a great place, don’t get me wrong- but the main floor does not have air conditioning- we’re having a mid-summer wedding and have older guests attending. Other thing is we’d have to rent so much stuff!
Then we went to the Inn at Whitewing. It was PERFECT. Great price, everything included, beautiful grounds, etc. We spent over 5 weeks between first contacting the manager and finally getting the contract. The last 4 weeks we’re waiting daily for the promised contract which he didn’t have even from the beginning- had to “contact lawyers”- yeah right- it was probably straight off the internet. Every day it was the same story, “I’m waiting ot get it back from my lawyers, I promise I’ll get it to you tomorrow.” And then it was “I got it back but I need to look it over. I’ll get it to you tomorrow” (This last one went on for a week straight). We FINALLY get it, and the venue price is 2 grand more than he quoted us both in e-mail and on the phone. When I asked him why that was in there- he said, “oh prices changed since we talked about it last.” Are you effing kidding me? I wrote him a nice review on TripAdvisor :http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g53951-d142126-r115243910-Inn_at_Whitewing_Farm_B_B-West_Chester_Pennsylvania.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT
So now- we flew home (we’re from Boston) and checked out the Stone Barn and since we didn’t have over 150 people coming we get the small firehall room with bathrooms that looked like a bathroom at the train stop. Really- too expensive for the room they wanted to give us. However, their food was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! But place just wasn’t right. Would have been if it was the Mill building but noooo….
Anyways- we’re looking into Springton Manor now- everything looks good so far so keeping fingers crossed.
Any other suggestions for the area anyone know of? We’re planning on around 100 people reception and don’t care if it’s indoor or outdoors…

Does it just have to be in the West Chester area? There are some nice places in Bucks and Delaware counties, from country clubs to gardens to farms and traditional banquet halls.
What sort of venue are you looking for? Rustic, modern, etc.?
What is your budget? You may also want to post this is in the Philadelphia forum.
Check out partyspace.com, too. It is such an invaluable resource for Greater Philadelphia venues.

@RayRayFurious: Thanks! We’re open to the surrounding areas, yes (but not more than 45 minutes from the church, which is in downtown West Chester, PA).
Total budget (with food/alcohol) is around 10 grand. That may be part of the problem too… Looking for rustic venue or farm. I’ll check out partyspace.com too. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is $10,000 your total wedding budget? Or just for the reception?
For reception, it could work. But for the whole wedding…for 100. I don’t know…
One of the bees (yrret107) got married at Milestones in West Chester. As far as I know, it’s BYOB and BYO-caterer. That’s probably how you’ll save the most money.
Here’s her breakdown/recap/review:
(There are some other suggestions in that thread, too).
If you scroll down some, you can see some pictures/more info of the venue, here:
I’m sure she’d be happy to answer questions.
I’ll continue to search my files 🙂

We got married at Meredith Manor which has a Pottstown PA address and it’s about 35 minutes outside of West Chester. It was perfect for us, if you like that outdoor feel. We live in west chester, and most of our family lives there and it wasn’t inconvenient at all. It has a rustic barn, which held our cocktail hour but if you have less than 100 people, it holds the reception. Otherwise the reception is in a beautiful white tent.
I’m going to a wedding at Concordville Inn which is closer to west chester than Meredith Manor was. It’s a nice place, not a rustic barn though.

I would try Bartram Gardens or any of the parks/ venues within the parks e.g. Fairmount Park http://www.examiner.com/diy-weddings-in-philadelphia/philadelphia-s-top-10-diy-wedding-venues-no-2-fairmount-park-1 or Valley Forge Park.
Not only can you diy your decor, but with most you can choose your own caterer. If it is definitely West Chester that you are seeking consider Immaculata University, West Chester University or simply contracting a nice farm or private garden in the area.

This may be just on the edge of the area you’re looking at, but try French Creek Golf Club.

We were so close to booking Springton Manor farm! It’s SO incredibly beautiful and rustic and that one old oak tree in the back almost sold us. And that tree-lined path for pictures. And the ceremony area, plus the big kitchen for caterers. I loved the woman that we were working with at the time too, Kim, she was new then so might still be there.
There’s no special reason we didn’t book there, but we had already fallen in love with our venue (up in Lehigh Valley so not near your area) and were only visiting Springton Manor Farm because we didn’t want to cancel at late notice.
My point is….I really hope Springton Manor Farm works out for you. I can just imagine how beautiful your wedding would be.
Some other considerations if it doesn’t:
Tyler Arboretum, The Old Mill, Rosebank Winery, John J Audubon Center, and the Farmhouse in Wilmington, DE.

Thanks everyone! My parents checked out Springton Manor farm but they told us with 100 people we’d also have to rent a tent adding additional costs to our already maxed out budget there 🙁 It’s tough to find a nice venue on a budget.
Thanks for allt he tips. We’ll check into the others…
BTW- I love the choose your own caterers. I would love more than anything for Montesano brothers to cater my wedding if I end up doing it in PA. They are AMAZING!!! Authentic Italian food from Italy. Cheeses, olives, etc. Can’t get enough of their catering and market!!! They are located in Eagle, PA.
