Ladies, with so many holiday proposals in the works, what are you getting your BF/soon-to-be-FI? I mean, what compares to an engagement ring as a gift!?
I did find this article, haha… http://www.ehow.com/how_2140651_buy-christmas-gift-fianc.html

- Wedding: June 2010 - Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
I got him an Xbox 360.
I actually called it his reverse engagement ring. lolol

I got him a really nice “outfit.” He mentioned that he wanted a particular style of boot, so I bought him a nice sweater and a belt to match the shoes.
On the one hand, I think it will happen over the holidays so I want to get him something special. But on the other hand, I’m not exactly sure and I don’t want to know if it will happen then. And really, what (except for an Xbox, lol) would be nearly as good as an engagement ring? I’ll just hope that by simply accepting his proposal, that will be gift enough. (kidding)

i would just get him what you’d normally get him. let’s face it, you can’t top an engagement ring! and isn’t it supposed to be a little bit of a surprise anyway? plus i bet he’s not expecting you to go crazy buying him gifts just because he’s getting you a ring. my fi proposed in feb and he didn’t get anything but me in return.

@artbee, yeah, unfortunately long distance relationships (and I mean REALLY long – like, we see each other every 6 months, and that’s stretching it to make it happen) prevent much mystery, so I know I’m getting a ring from him next month.
I guess, technically, I’m just assuming it’ll be in lieu of my Christmas gift. Is there a way to be like, “hey, I’d rather have a real proposal than getting this as my Christmas gift and then lamely handing you a new digital camera that cost 1/10th what my ring did?” …probably not, eh?

I’m not sure if I’ll be getting my ring or not by Christmas, but either way, I jsut bought him the same kind of stuff I always get him for Christmas.

This is my last Christmas as a single girl, but for our wedding I’m going to get him an Omega watch… it won’t be as much as my engagement ring, but it’ll get close enough! A camera would be an awesome thing to get him, though! That was you can charge it ahead of time and take pictures as soon as you get engaged!

i’m really hoping i get the ring for christmas, but i know it all depends on when it comes in. it is supposed to be coming in right around christmas i think (or that’s what i’ve gathered from harassing BF since October)
but i also bought him an XBOX 360. it’s something he has told me for 3 years he has wanted and never expected i would actually get it for him. so i’m super excited to give it to him!

- Wedding: March 2009 - Byodo-In Temple, Luau Reception
I got him a $30 bottle of cologne. LoL. We were both broke that year and decided to put a $30 price cap on each other. Umm…yeah, he went a lil’ over $30. :o)

i know that my partner is getting a ring for me sometime in the next two months so i had to really think about something meaningful to get him for christmas! im trying to plan a special christmas evening… i’ll cook dinner, get some new lingerie and give him a massage. not as pricey as an engagement ring but i know he’ll love being pampered! =)

I had a feeling my fiance was going to propose on Valentines’s Day (this past year), and we always get each other something, so I was just as stumped as you. I remembered that he wanted a pair of red chucks REALLY bad, but whenever he’d bring them up I”d just laugh at him. I know it doesn’t compare to a ring, but I bought him those red shoes and he loved the fact that it was something he’s always wanted.

I was thinking about buying him the outfit that I want him to wear in our engagement pics. I wanted to buy him a ring too, but he said no. So I may buy him a kangol hat.

i got him a range finder because EVERY time we are at the sporting store he looks at them!
