I have a crown on one of my molars. It really isn't a painful experience, the worst part is when they give you the shot to numb your mouth. It does take a long time though. I believe it took my dentist 2 hours (then again, they made the crown while I was there so I didn't have to come back later).
It is uncomfortable, and my jaw hurt for a few days afterward because I had to keep my mouth open for so long, but it wasn't terrible. Getting my wisdom teeth pulled was a bajillion times worse!
You'll do fine, and you'll be sooooo happy when your tooth doesn't hurt anymore. :)
i HATED the temporary... and they had trouble putting in my permenent one... it took a little while to get used to once it was in, but it shouldn't effect your wedding at all :-)
Thanks, I'm down to 2 hours before the appt, so my fingers are crossed. I really don't like going to the dentist.
Good luck! I've never had a crown, but I used to work as a dental assistant. The actual procedure shouldn't hurt if you're having novicaine. But, If after your appointment it hurts to bite down or your tooth is sensitive to cold, it probably has to do with the temp crown being too high... they will just adjust it for you if that happens.
You shouldn't have a problem though, and once you get your permanent crown it should feel like a regular tooth. :)
How did it go, soonerpsych? I hope everything went well and your jaw is feeling better by now! :)

I wasn't the best kid and teen when it came to taking care of my teeth. I'm a lot better now, but I've already got several fillings in my molars.
Today I have to go get one filling removed and a temporary crown put on until I get the real crown on June 18. I've never had a crown before and I'm nervous that it's going to hurt like heck. I'm also nervous because June 18 is really stinking close to my June 26 wedding, but I've got to have it done before my insurance changes the first week of July.
Has anyone had an experience with crowns? Any advice or stories? Did it hurt, and if so, for how long?
