I was wondering if anyone has recently worked with Sachiko for hair and makeup. I know she is often recommended on this blog, but I have not had a great experience with her thus far. Nothing terrible, but she doesn’t really give you all the information you need at once and she is not great with follow-up. For example, we had been emailing about hair and makeup trials. Then, in March she informs me that she only does trials for brides and not anyone else in the bridal party, which is fine except I had been putting things off until my MOH was done with the school semester. Now I get an email that she is booked for June and cannot do a trial that month, even though we have been talking about a June appointment for some time now. Luckily, I have time before my wedding, but I am concerned that other things will come up as the date gets closer. I am debating whether to try to find another hair and makeup artist. Has anyone had any recent expereinces that they are willing to share?

She was booked for my wedding and recommended Ai Sakai who I LOVED! She is great. Check her out if you are looking for someone else.

In my experience, she was very prompt in replying to my emails and yea, we had to go back and forth a couple of times to find a trial date that worked for both of us, but we were able to make time. I was actually 30 mins late to the trial due to work and she was very understanding.
Also, I originally booked her to do hair and makeup for everyone (6 women), she said she could handle it. However, I was concerned about time and so I asked her to recommend a second hair/mu person. Sachiko not only understood my worries, she took it upon herself to ask a number of hair/makeup artists she frequently works with to see if they were free (Ai Sakai, Reiko, stacey pitt, etc.).
In terms of her work, at the trial, she went through 2 different make up looks with me and about 5 different up-dos. She was very maticulous with putting on the individual fake eye lashes. So much so, that I booked a second make-up artist to help out on the day (she does air brushing) but I am tempted to ask Sachiko to do my eyelashes anyway (dunno yet, bc I don’t want to offend the other artist).
That being said, I booked all my vendors (photog, florist, etc) based on not only the quality of their work, but on their communication skills and how they handle their business. I want someone that I feel comfortable depending on, on my wedding day. If you have any hesitations, it doesn’t hurt to explore other stylists as well.
Good luck! I hope you find someone you like soon. It seems in my experience, hair/mu people in NYC book up FAST!

I loved working with Sachiko. Because I was very indecisive, she tried many different styles to help me picture what I might look like.
She was so understanding when I tried to coordinate a trial date with an e-shoot with a very popular photographer (so many back and forth on dates). The popular photographer flaked out on me the day of the shoot and I called Sachiko to cancel. I felt so bad because Sachiko was high in demand and scheduling around commercial shoots.
I would use her again in a heartbeat. She showed up early the day of my reception and got to work right away. The only thing that I had to get use to was that it took a day to get an email back. As someone who works on a computer all day long, I’m used to seeing email responses within minutes or hours. She doesn’t get to go on a computer as often.
