Just wondering if anyone has any experience with vinyl plank flooring? We need to rip out the cheap builder grade carpet in our sitting room and came across this. We have a luxury vinyl in our kitchen which is holding up great to the dogs and looks nice, but im worried a vinyl plank will look cheap. I’m just wondering if it would be worth it or if we should just wait and do a more expensive bamboo floor instead.

I don’t have any experience with vinyl flooring, but I would think it would scratch easily (think of a vinyl couch.)
What about engineered wood? This is what we have in our house and it really stands up & doesn’t scratch as easily as natural hardwoods do.

It’s actually fairly durable but there are some higher quality ones. Affordable and looks nice but is considered “builder grade” in our town and only one builder I know here does it.

We put in luxury vinyl plank flooring in my family’s lake house, and it looks completly real. I would never know it wasn’t real wood unless I was told. That being said, this flooring was actually more expensive than the cheapest real wood, but we got it on sale. I can’t speak for how well it will hold up, as its only been installed for about a year, but so far the dogs havent torn it up at all.

Personally, for a large area, I would wait and do the bamboo or something else.
I used vinyl plank flooring in our closets and it looks amazing. I do not know if I would like it throughout a large area, though.
There is also a type of ceramic tile that looks exactly like hardwood now, but it wont scratch like hardwood.

The owners of our current house (a rental) used the vinyl wood-look self-adhering planks in the office area. It could be their amature DIY skills or the quality of the vinyl they chose, but either way it looks like crap and the planks are peeling up in some areas. I am not impressed with the stuff we are dealing with.

My parents bought vinyl wood flooring for their kitchen and it looks great! I also had it on one of my old apartments and it thought it could have been real wood!
