Just curious if any of you are going off the pill, how did it go?  I went off end of May, but we are using a nonchemical 'goalie'.  (I'm sooo using that term from now on.)

The stupid thing is, I still worry every month about a certain time that I'm pregnant...partially bc of my weight gain.  I gained about 10 pounds after I went off, which stinks bc I gained 10 lbs when I went "on" about 10 years ago!  It all seems to be in my belly.  Even though I'm not skinny, I've never had a chubby belly, so people actually think as a newlywed I might be prego already...OUCH!

Of course acne, cramps, fl*w are also way worse, but I'm hoping that will pass eventually.

Anyone else want to be the company to my misery?

I just went back on the BC becuase of the constant worrying about being preggers. I love being off the pill. I always feel much more adjusted and happier. My flow is a lot better when I am on the pill, but besides that I am not a fan.

At one point I went off the pill for about a year and boy did I suffer the consequences. I also gained some weight but my biggest problem was acne. It came full force. I honestly felt like I was a teenager. I tried all types of cleansers but none of them helped so I ended up back on the pill for that reason and obviously the main reason I went on the pill.

One positive thing about going off the pill was that I had less of an attitude especially when I was on my period.

I've only been off a month and the only difference I've noticed is increased occurrances of acne, unfortunately.

I went off the pill about a year and a half ago, and I'm glad I did - was tired of the hormones. The best thing has been the return of my sex drive :) The biggest problem has been acne... it's annoying. But my skin has gotten better from experimenting with different cleansers and trying to eat better.

Wow, I was total opposite.  I went off, lost weight, no breakouts, and felt GREAT.  I gues every person is different?  Perhaps your skin just needs some time to adjust to the differnece in chemical composition?

I'll be going off in June and I am not excited about it. The monthly visits of aunt flo (unless i get pregnant asap, cross your fingers) mean 7-8 days of full on bleeding, going through 2.5 boxes of super plus tampons in those 7-8 days, spare pairs of undies in my purse, dark pants all week, and a full prescription of vicodin and tylenol. Not to mention extreme irritability to the point that I hate being around myself, let alone anyone else who has to deal with my wrath!

The plus side? I hope my sex drives skyrockets!

I've been off for about 6+ mos now. The first few months took some adjusting. My skin broke out and I had to get used to the symptons again (cramps, being endlessly hungry!!) but for me it's totally worth not being on it. After the first three months I lost a little weight, my skin calmed down (I also changed my skin care products since the composition of my skin changed. You might want to look into this as well) and my sex drive is starting to return to normal (it's taking its sweet ass time getting back there but every month I feel a difference. thank goodness).

Give yourself a few months to see how you feel. I know it technically isn't supposed to effect your body once you go off of it but I really do think it takes a few months to really get out of your system, despite the fact that you can get pregnant almost immediately.

I hope I'm not being paranoid, but I'm actually worried I have a hormonal imbalance.  I'm going to get everything checked out just to be safe, bc my sister had similar things to me before she got pregnant.  She had to go on hormones to get pregnant and only after her ultrasounds did they realize she had fibroid tumors, which can increase flow.  So, while maybe I should wait it out a little longer, the baby bug is bad enough I want to nip anything in the bud.

(My mom also had different problems that required 2 procedures...so say a little prayer that I'm just being paranoid!)

I just went off about two weeks ago, so I'm curious to see if there are any side-effects.

@cannotwait - I am sure you aren't being paranoid! Since you have a family history of reproductive issues I think it makes total sense to get yourself checked out. Way to be proactive. Good luck!

Yeah, mine is defnitely it's one special little experience. It sucks SO bad! I just end up laid up around the house all day. I'm so grateful to have a desk job when it hits!

@cannotwait, I'd definitely get checked out. My whacko periods finally set up a red flag and they found a whole mess of stuff wrong with me. 2 surgeries and counting...It never hurts to be safe and ask!

When I went off the pill I got terrible headaches. Even when I was taking normal pills and had an "off week" the headaches were debilitating, unlike anything I ever felt before. You'd already have experienced this if it was going to happen to you. It does make me have a little fear in stopping again, though, when it's baby time!

I have endometriosis so periods off of the pill are excruciating. However, I did it for about a year. My mood VASTLY improved and so did my sexdrive. But with the bad break outs and awful period, I couldn't deal with it any more.

I really, really want to get off the pill. I, thankfully, don't have that many side effects with the pill but the biggest one is the deal breaker. NO sex drive. Zero. it's starting to really get annoying for me and the husband. But I'm afraid of getting off the pill.

Question: are all of you that are off the pill, trying to get pregnant? If not, what other form of BC are you using? I really don't want to use condoms.

and also, did you feel your sex drive come back right away?

so, I'm SO glad I went off the pill months in advance of TTC...they found out I have an ovarian cyst they will monitor and I'm also getting hormone tests...stinks, but better now that when we are actively TTC!

I went off two months ago, and other than the cramps, it's been great. My skin is clearer, lost some weight, less crabby, I love it. I think I'm going to stay off of the hormonal BC from now on, but I've involved the doctor in the whole process, that helped a little I think.

Not quite the pill, but I was due to have the depot at the beginning of August and didn't, cos FI and I are concerned about long term risk to fertility as it takes up to 2 years for fertility return, and we want to start trying after our wedding in August. So far I've had mild cramping on and off for  few weeks. Light spotting for the past 4 days, but no visit from Aunt Flo just yet!

I hope to go off next year sometime - I'm not worried about side effects, since I didn't really have any when I went on.  However, I will miss knowing exactly when my period will start.  Before I started on the pill, it would be up to 10 days late sometimes, really freaky!  Right now I can almost predict down to the hour when it will come.

So glad to see this post!  I went off the pill about 5 months ago.  We're going to wait until closer to our spring wedding to try to get pregnant.  But, I've been on the pill for so many years i wanted to give my body time to adjust.  I returned to a regular cycle pretty quickly, which I was happy about.  But,  I had forgotten how heavy and miserable my periods are when not on the pill.  I'm basically out of commission for the first day or two.  Not fun!  But, the worst part for me has been acne.    The acne is on my face, neck and chest.  I've never had acne anywhere other than my face and it's never been more than some break-outs here and there.  I asked my dermatologist about it.  She gave me a benzol peroxide wash (that gave me hives and a horrible, itchy rash) and flippantly said that getting pregnant will, "clear your skin right up!"  Needless to say, I'm searching for a new dermatologist.  (Any good derms in nyc -- most I've come across are more interested in botoxing than acne.)   Unfortunately, my neck and chest acne has created one more reason (my weight) to avoid dress shopping.  I'm trying to push through my insecurities, but it's not exactly giving me the bride-to-be excited vibe I was hoping for!
