My caterer is awesome and all of their food is delish..for the cocktail hour we are having dometic and imported cheese with crackers and pears and a fig jam or something, and mixed fruits with a dipping suace...for the buffet we can choose 6 items off of a rather large menu, but it does not include beef because we are trying to stick to a lower budget. The five items I have chosen are asiago stuffed  fingerling potatos, asparagus (or should I go with green beans?) both veggies are cooked with fancy stuff like bacon or cheese, for example and taste great), a spinach salad with goat cheese and pecans, raspberry vin, moroccon chicken (basically just chicken with a yummy seasoning on the outside) over couscous, and then shrimp and grits...because I felt there were so many starches in this option I am having a hard time deciding a sixth option. Should I do a pasta salad, or a dessert assortment (we are having cake too), or another meat (it would still have to be a chicken dish or seafood dish), or what?

I think with cake a dessert assortment might be too many sweets for most people.  Another entree might be a good idea.

i will go with another meat or the pasta, if you choose a dessert it can be too much sweet and when you cut the cake some people wont eat it. but you do whatever you think is right for your wedding and your guest.

    btw. the food sounds great

I would go rather for green beans than asparagus as most people won't even try it. The look of it and other people telling them it tastes gross (previous to your wedding) makes it so that many people wouldn't try it. I'd go with a pasta or meat due to only having 5 things that are savory in the buffet. As long as there is enough cake, people will be fine. I'd lean even further toward a pasta as you don't have one already, but that's just me.

my fiance and I love sweets and I thought we had enough starches so thats why I was liking the idea of sweets, plus no other wedding I have been to has had sweets besides fruit and cake. However, I am thinking there could be another option...here are 5, if anyone reads this which one sounds good as a sixth one?

1.) southern panzanella salad with toasted corn bread, applewood smoked bacon, and  fried green tomatos

2.)4 cheese macaroni with toasted buttercrumbs and aged parm

3.)spicy red vegetable curry over basmati rice

    4.)miniatature thai chicken wonton tacos

    5.) almond flake chicken tenders

    6.) pasta salad

    7.) mini meatloaf muffiins

8.) or the dessert spread which will include pastries, creme brulee spoons, chocolate filled strawberry halves and more..

    thanks!

Personally I would prefer the dessert spread, but I have a humongous sweet tooth.  But if you go for a savory dish I would suggest the 4 cheese macaroni with toasted buttercrumbs and aged parm, you can't go wrong with mac and cheese! :)

i'm a picky eater, but i would eat like 3 out of the 5 choices you picked.  so i would pick the dessert assortment.  even with the wedding cake, i would eat more dessert!
