You have awhile, why don't you have a custom suit made? Sounds expensive, but depending on the material it can be as low as $5-600.
Have you guys checked out Express and Banana Republic? Their suits seem to be cut more for that body type.
Either go to My Suit (near Macy's in Herald Square) and have it custom made for around $475 or get him one from Zara. They had gorgoeus slim fit suits for tall and skinny men.
Jcrew has great slim fit suits. My brother is very tall and skinny and that's where he gets his suits.
We got my fiance's suit at Macy's and they had a decent selection of "European cut" suits. He is very thin as well but we found a suit that fit even without alterations!
If he is that tall and thin, even a slim fit suit will likely be a bit big, so you will need to find a good tailor to alter the suit, or have one custom made as previous posters mentioned. My FI wears suits to work everyday, and even though he isn't as thin as your FI, he still has all of his suits tailored for the best look.
I have heard of quite a few people with slim guys, who have had success with this website:
We got FI's suit from indochino, just like .twist. suggested. It worked out fabulously and he looks (and feels) awesome! We had a great experience with them! We spent about $350 on his suit that was made to his measurements. They also give you a $75 credit to use at a local tailor if it isn't quite right and if it costs more that $75, they will make you a whole new suit. If you have specific questions, I can try to answer them!
ETA: FI is super slim as well - 5'11" and about 140ish pounds
we got a j.crew suit and then had it tailored further. you can even purchase a larger suit in a cut that's close to what you're looking for and a good tailor can make it look like a million bucks!
my husband is tall and lean and he buys suits from marshalls-like places for cheap and puts that money towards tailoring.
thanks everyone for all the great suggestions! i know my profile says our date is june 2013, but we haven't booked anything and are thinking of moving the wedding to june 2012.
@.twist.: that website looks great! thanks!
Hello, my fiance is also tall and lanky, so he has the same problem as your fiance. We found a suit for him that fit absolutely perfectly and made him look super hot at Huge Boss, we're in South Africa, but im sure you'd be able to go to a store there and find one. He literally tried it on and didnt want to take it off because it looked so good.
I was just about to say Hugo Boss but see it's already been mentioned. I would even suggest the Hugo Boss outlet where you can get a nice slim fitting suit for $500-$600 and if you catch a clearance suit or sale even less. Hugo Boss is European so their suits are more form fitting to begin with and their slim model is even slimmer. My DH who is about 6 feet, 190 lbs. just had a negative experience at Hugo Boss when the sales person told him he should go for the regular cut as he is too big for their slim fit. Brands like Ralph Lauren (trad. American designers) tend to have a more boxy cut. Also, having the jacket tailored makes a huge difference.
my cousin got his tux from imparali, you may check them http://imparali.com/ for custom suit or a tux .

Having a problem here. My fh is very small framed, and tall (6'1 and 130lbs - yes, he eats lol). Every suit he's tried on has made his shoulders look way wider than they are, and his body looking boxy. All of the slim-fit suits he's tried so far are too roomy for him. He's one of those "skinny jeans and t-shirts" type guys, so he feels very awkward in clothes that flow off of him. We're looking for something in either dark brown or tan. At this point, we're starting to think of skipping the suit jacket all together and just having him wear a vest and tie.
