Fabric Color for Headboard

I am working on DIY-ing a headboard for our bed. But I am having trouble figuring out what fabric to use. I want a solid because I am afraid a pattern will show more imperfections.

We have dark red curtains in the room. I have matching red sheets on the bed and this duvet cover on the bed.

I was thinking a light silver/grey color for the headboard. Any suggestions?

I love nuetral colours... so i am a big fan of greys. whites, beige.. and nothing too outlandish. Love the idea of white to match that bedspread or a real nice simple print!

I actually like the idea of either white (which I'm afraid might be too much of a contrast), or like a light gray/silver.

I'm also leaning towards liking an ecru color. That way it wouldn't be so stark white, but still look crisp and clean.

Thanks ladies! I am having trouble finding fabric that I like. I ordered swatches from warehousefabricsinc.com that I ended up not liking, and I've been to Jo-Ann's and Hancock Fabrics and haven't found anything there either. I didn't realize a light grey/silver would be so hard to find! Any suggestions for where to get the fabric?

@polkadotbridetobe: It's from Bed Bath, but they don't sell it anymore. :( The brand is KAS.

What about a headboard with buttons (see below) that are in a dark or contrasting color? Maybe a dark grey or black OR that dark red you're talking about?
