I also ordered with Fabulous U, but it’s taking forever to get my dress done which has me worried. I ordered my dress on Feb 3rd, and the dress still isn’t done… Hmmm.

I too ordered my dress from TheFabulousU in late March, and indicated I would need the dress by August.  I requested a horsehair tulle ballgown skirt as seen on Sottero’s Selina gown, and I preferred the top of her Mabel gown.  And I wanted sleeves or a jacket added. I sent all of the photos and closeups I could find.

May 20th I am sent photos.  No horsehair edging in the tulle so it is very limp, and the bodice is littered with some large crystals – they seem to have a thing for this particular lace/adornment on bodices – but it does not meet with the feel of what I had requested.  I immediately point out the huge discrepancy in the skirt (the invoice references horsehair tulle, too).  I say I want the large rhinestones removed from the bodice.

June 28th I am emailed photos of the rework.  The current incarnation of the dress is visible on their Facebook as posted on 6/26/13.  Still lacking stiffness in the skirt, and the edges of the tulle now appear like it has pulls or crimps.  It kind of looks like they tried to stitch in some edging to the tulle layers to recreate the appearance of horsehair edging. I tell Tony this needs correcting. I am also sent sleeve/jacket ideas that do not match the photos I had already sent in March – that portion has not yet been begun.

I have messaged Tony tonight for an update.  Not sure how they are going to make an August delivery – the website talks about a custom gown taking up to 30 days for completion.  We were well over that before the corrections were communicated the first time.

I wanted so badly to be patient and communicative and to give them the chance to come thru.  But now I am well and truly nervous.  Initially I had hoped I was being sent pics of someone else’s order, to mollify me because my order had been forgotten or delayed.  =/

I finally got my dress photos! The dress looks fairly good, clearly not as high quality as the Maggie Sottero dress this is meant to replicate, but for $500 instead of $1,500, I’ll take it. I asked them to not add the hip flower detail as I am making something to pin there instead. The things I’m not crazy about are the belt, which isn’t quite the one they showed me pictures of to begin with, and the cut out part of the skirt isn’t quite as bold looking as I was hoping for. I will make sure to post photos of me in it once it arives.

I have tonight gotten the pictures of the third go round of correcting the skirt – still some areas of crimping/pulling of the thread too tight on the edges of some ruffles on the back.  In some ways things appear untouched, but the bodice of the dress now looks like it is my size (plus) whereas comparing to earlier pictures it doesnt.  No pictures of the sleeves/jacket.  I have asked for when they expect to ship.

Above is the first second edition – below is the third (latest)

Still no removal of the larger crystals or the crystals in the skirt adornment.  *sigh*

After receiving mine, I will not post pictures. It doesn’t really fit. Which is kind of my fault, because I lost some weight and also was told by the maker to go up to the nearest whole number if I was between inches when taking the measurements. The quality is… Not terrible. There are some issues with the general fit which I hope to have remedied when I get this baby altered. The picture TO ME clearly looks more like a fit and flare gown than an A-line, and currently this dress fits like an A-line, not that flatering on me. I am a bit dspleased because I think after alterations, this dress might end up costing close to what the one it’s copying costs. Frown

Be VERY VERY careful about ordering from Fabulous U. I ordered a $500 gown and they made an extremely LOW QUALITY gown. The messed up the fabric, silhouette, hem, and bodice. They refused to correct it or remake it (as their policies state) and they refuse to honor my requests for a refund. Now they refuse to respond to my emails or answer my calls, and I am out of $500 for my WEDDING no less. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS VENDOR! BUYER BEWARE

Well, as I predicted, alterations to fix the gown will cost as much as it’s cost to create. I’m also out $500. I thought I was being so cost conscious, it’s a shame it turned out this way. I ended up listing my dress on tradesy and I’m hoping someone will take it for half price. I went to David’s Bridal, which I did NOT want to do, and ended up having a pretty good experience. I also picked out a dress that was nothing like the one I had made from Fabulout U, hahaha. Anyway, I also warn against buying from Fabulous U. I would say go look for a used gown online before going to Fabulous U. The dress I bought from David’s was less expensive than the Fabulous U but the quality is A MILLION TIMES BETTER. That’s just sad
