@jasonkatie2014:  I’m interested in this as well. I just started seeing a dermatologist but am interested in facials and dermabrasion. Thanks for starting this!

@jasonkatie2014:  Try laser facials. They are expensive, but the laser will clean out all of your pores and also stimulate collagen production. The bump in collagen production in turn will help minimize the appearance of acne scars.

i get a facial or 2 every year.

i got one 5 months before my wedding and am planning to get another one 2 months before.

for acne scars, it was recommended to me to get a chemical peel.  but i decided against doing that.

I would go see a dermatologist. I know it’s the standard advice, but they’re skin doctors. If you had a back problem, you’d go see a doctor… if you had cancer, you’d go see a doctor.. etc. right? Why should skin be any different? Acne can be controlled with the right medication (topical and/or oral).

My skin is in good condition but pretty sensitive and I am hesistant to try facials. I don’t know what they’re putting on me, and it might not go well. Also, extractions (when they take out the blackheads) can go horribly wrong.. and there are two camps of facialists regarding extractions.. ones who think they’re awesome, and ones who will not do them. With your more complex acne, I would not do that.

Microdermabrasion I believe needs multiple treatments, and could really irritate your existing acne, making it worse.

If you’re hell bent on trying a facial, I’d go to the Bliss one (I believe NYC has the flagship location).

I second the laser facials. Microdermabrasion actually isn’t very good for your skin as it thins the skin and makes lines more visible. I have a dermatologist relative. Chemical peels damage the skin as well. They pretty much exist because rich elderly women think that it will take yrs off of their appearance. But it actually makes the look much older. Good luck!

Weird double post!

Hmm that is too bad about the dermatologists.. yikes. That does suck. I hope you find something that works. But yeah, I am always wary of facials… you can’t expect miracles and when they go bad, it’s usually very bad.

Oh and chemical peels are scary. My coworker got one for acne and it looked like the worst sunburn EVER for like 2 weeks and no long-term improvement.

@jasonkatie2014:  I would advise you not to waste your money and just go to the Dermatologist. No facial will do for you what a DOCTOR can do for you. The least that will happen is you’ll get some good advice on what works for your skin type – washes, on the spot treatments, or maybe even facials.

With scarring, I’ve heard that a chemical peel done by your Dermatologist’s office should minimize or remove all appearance of scars EVENTUALLY (so you would have to get one every 4 months or so until they are diminished).

Good luck!

@jasonkatie2014:  I get facials once a Month! The Bee capitalized that. -_- anyway. I loooove them. I have oily skin and they do wonders for it! The esthetician will listen to your problems and look at your skin up close under a bright light and do the treatments that are right for you. She also has guided me in my at-home routine, which has helped immensely!
