So I had my glucose screen this morning and failed. I go back on the 29th for the 3 hour test. Any advice? They didn’t really explain what the process was for the 3 hour, just not to eat high carb or high sugar the night before, fast after midnight and bring something to do while I’m at the office all morning.
I really should be doing better with my diet anyway. I have been eating a lot of carbs and snacks, especially with the holidays. There are so many parties and such at my work this time of year and SO many desserts. I’ve been trying to eat more healthily, but I know there is too much sugar and a big part of my diet is carbs, since they are the easiest to eat and keep down.

I failed my 1-hr, too. The 3-hr for me involved a baseline blood draw, drinking the now twice-as-sweet drink, then a blood draw every hour for the next 3 hrs. Again, I’d bring water (they let me sip while waiting) and some sort of non-sweet snack for as soon as you leave the office. Baby was very active during the 3 hours. 🙂 I have no good tips for how to prepare but I did pass the 3-hr. Good luck!

Not passing the 1-hr isn’t necessarily a bad thing. My OB told me when I did my 1-hr glucose screen that she fails most women because she doesn’t want to take chances. I haven’t heard back yet for my 1-hr but I have an appt next Wednesday and I’l hear then. Many people that fail the 1-hr can and will still pass the 3-hr.
As the PP said, my understanding of the 3-hr is that the drink is extra extra sweet and you do the baseline blood draw and another blood draw every hour after that. They should alternate which arm they take the blood from each time. Good luck!
