I am getting married in July 2013 and was planning on shopping for my wedding dress this summer (July/August). I have a very good idea of what I want as when I first got engaged (last summer) my mother took me dress shopping “for fun” (…lol). After 4 appointments at bridal shops I found a dress that I ADORED and fell in love with, but I knew it was too early to buy it and didn’t want to risk dress regret. Needless to say after that there were no more “for fun” dress appointments made. lol.
So now, I’m super excited to start shopping again this summer and hopefully finding something that will make me swoon like the first dress I found. I’ve seen on the boards that the Spring wedding dresses just made their debut on the runways recently and now I’m so confused!! When will Spring/Summer 2013 dresses come out? I feel like if they come out around this time next year that’s far too late to buy for a July wedding… Are Fall 2012 dresses meant to be the Spring/Summer wedding dresses?! In that case should I wait until the fall?? When is Fall Bridal Fashion Week?! When should I buy my dress for my July 2013 wedding!! I’m so confused! Please help! Thanks 🙂

I don’t think you should worry too much about seasons, unless you want a REALLY trendy dress or REALLY want a brand new designer dress. Just shop for your dress whenever you’re ready and buy one you like.

I wouldn’t worry about what season the dress came out or was meant for. You’ll most likely try on dresses from all different seasons and just find one you love. I never noticed the season of either of the wedding dresses I bought – when I was trying to sell the first, I found out that it was from Fall 2011 (which was current at that time), and the one I ended up buying and keeping is actually from a couple years ago. Didn’t know any of that at the time and it didn’t affect anything.

They will start hitting the stores in trunk shows this summer. Some designers will discontinue unpopular styles from past collections, but most are available for multiple years.
If you find yourself gravitating towards a certain designer, you’ll love the trunks shows, when the entire collection is brought in for a short period of time. After that, the shop chooses a few samples to carry.

oh ok, thank you ladies for clarifying… I guess I assumed that Spring collection dresses were light and airy and Fall collection dresses were heavier and since I DEFINITELY want something light and airy, I got confused/concerned… lol

I was wondering about this as well. I saw some Alfred Angelo dresses in the Spring 2013 collection that I would love to try on! But I have no idea when they’ll be arriving in stores or if I would have enough time to try them and order them before my wedding.
