Inspiration strikes again, and now I'm considering an October wedding for this year. (Wasn't I just considering a July wedding for NEXT year?!)

In an effort to keep things simple, I thought having a casual yet elegant fall wedding would be fabulous. My aunt and uncle have quite a bit of land and are building this BEAUTIFUL, huge "barn". I use the term "barn" loosely. It's basically a second house on their property...soaring ceilings, a second floor, french doors, the works. It is wide open on the inside which is a perfect blank canvas for decorating.

Since we want a small wedding anyway, and something more like a cocktail reception, would this be doable in such a short amount of time?

    Inspiration:

cider, doughnuts, pumpkin roll-up, banana bread, candy corn, squash soup (served in mugs!), a mashed potato bar, pumpkin pie, apple pie, a bonfire with s'mores, lots of candles and lanterns(a lot of this can be DIY)

If the house isn't finished yet, I wouldn't have your heart set on the place. If the building is scheduled to be done by September, just remember that there's always the possibility that it will be behind schedule (as most construction usually is). Also, there may be problems here and that need to be fixed. If you want an October wedding I would make it late October just to ensure that the house is ready for your wedding. I hope it works out since the house sounds amazing!

Sounds terrific...and doable too!  I say sit down with Fi and figure a few things out first (guestlist, available funds, etc) then plow ahead. It should be pretty obvious and if you can pull those important things together quickly, the other detail should fall into place.  Good luck!

You could definitely do this depending on when the building is going to be finished. Just be prepared to not be able to second-guess yourself, since you will not have the luxury of time (I know, I'm having a 7-month engagement, getting married the 1st of November). However, it's kind of freeing just to make a decision and know there's no going back.

Sounds amazing!  I love the fall and am getting married this fall myself.  There is just so many fun touches you can do at this time of year especially laid back and rustic.  It sounds like you have a great plan already.

definitely doable... try hitting up the craft stores, they have all of the fall stuff out now to inspire you a little more...

But you should probably get that bridal butt in gear... talk to your aunt and set a date asap

Short engagements are definitely doable for wedding planning! I am planning mine - cross-country no less! - in a 4-1/2 month engagement. I have a friend that did hers in 6 weeks. Just keep in mind the practicalities and limitations, and keep it simple!

i think you can pull this off.  im in the same boat as you.  it's definitely stressful since you're trying to pull everything together in such a short amount of time but i think that it pushes you to really work on it.

     good luck :)

If you are sure that the "barn" will be complete in time for your wedding, or you have some kind of backup location, this is totally doable! I especially love the bonfire and s'mores idea, it would be very memorable for your guests.

We're having a barn wedding in late september of this year! Cider, smores, haybales, old farm trucks, locally grown flowers, all a part of our plan!!!

There's lots of inspiration around, good bios on the knot, good boards on Snippet & ink and Style me Pretty also Check out Cherry Pie's posts too - her event is sort of rustic.

You may need to rent tables and chairs. Rental has been one of our biggest expenses because there isn't much in the barn to start with.
