    Hello all!

I am seriously considering false lashes for my wedding day, but have had not so good experiences with them in the past, so it looks like I'll be needing lots of practice.

Does anyone know of a great type of false eyelash that is good for beginners?  Also any tips or tricks that you think would be helpful?

    Thank you!

I Definitely am a big supporter of the individual lashes.  I think they look way more natural than the strip ones.  Plus, you can play with them and see if you just want them on the ends or throughout.  I would definitely say they are a must!  They just give your eyes a little boost!

I had them and they were amazing!  A makeup artist did it for me though.

@GardenBride: Do you need to go to a salon to have individual lashes put on?

I did, and they were great! My makeup artist put them on, and she did the individual ones.  Definitely made a huge difference, especially in pictures.

@Bubu82: From what a friend (with really pathetic natural lashes lol) tells me, they can be glued in similar to the way hair extensions are.  They last a little while, so it won't be just for your wedding day, but you can be sure that they won't come out.  It's probably overkill, though, and certainly not something I'd recommend.  I'm sure most makeup artists know how to apply them normally so that they'll be secure.  And carry glue in your emergency kit!

@chirod: No, but you should, just to be sure they won't fall off.

The only way I'd think false eyelashes won't look false is the individual ones, carefully applied by someone who knows how.  Otherwise, there are tons of magical ways of making your own look perfect without the hassle.

how long do the extensions work? I'm getting married on a cruise ship so no make up artist for me (unless I want one of the random salon girls on the ship)

I had the individual lashes - not as hard to put on by yourself (though I had a MUA). They stay on really well - they shouldn't come off with tears or sweat. Mine stayed put firmly until I took them off. The adhesive was really good!

Do them!! You can get ones that look so real but are just longer and make your eyes look bigger!

@heatherkristin: I honestly don't remember.  I think it was 6 weeks or so?  It was awhile ago that I had to talk her out of them, and I can't remember everything she said. I think she said either 6 months or 6 weeks, but 6 months sounds like too much, so that can't be it.

EDIT: I just googled the place (or a similar place) she was looking at and they're saying 2 months, so I guess I remembered right.  They fall off when your lashes naturally molt.

@HnyBee: i had individual lashes put on before and they lasted almost 2 months.  They are amazing and it only costs between 60-120 depending how full you want them to look.  I got the mini set for 60 and it made a huge difference and looked so nice.  They are long and full but still look natural with your own lashes.  The ones I got are called Xtreme Lashes and you can find someone in your area who is certified to do them.  This is the website.  Hope it helps!! I would highly recommend. :)

I agree with GardenBridethe individual lashes are the way to go! I wear them quite frequently for performances and they do not come off until I use makeup remover on them. I suggest using the black eyelash glue. I have also had eyelash extensions and hated them! They made my eyelashes look spidery and they only stayed on for 2 weeks, ripping many of my natural lashes out with them...not a good experience for me.

You cannot totally tell if they are applied correctly. :)

@keybee: fake or real? tacky or natural?

Careful when you throw the word tacky around....alot of brides wore fake lashes and wouldnt want to hear that you think they are tacky.

@chirod: You can have a makeup artist do it but I have done it myself.  You just need to practice a little bit!  =)  They are easy to use!  PLus, they stay on for a few days as long as your aren't pulling at them!

I wore fakes, and I don't think they don't look bad as long as you choose the falsies wisely. Yes, some of them will make you look like a drag queen, but the shorter ones or individual ones can look really pretty.  False lashes are especially good for emphasizing your eyes in photos since the camera always minimizes features.

I used Duo lash glue, which is supposed to be one of the best according to the reviews on Makeupalley.com. Unfortunately I didn't practice putting them on, and one side started coming loose later that night. Oops! Oh well, nothing that a small dab of glue on a toothpick couldn't fix. The other lash stayed on very well.

If you're uncertain about applying them yourself, go to Sephora and get a lesson. They'll show you how to do it right.

@deliciousappleblue: I have been really interested in trying that! A salon here does them for $65 for a natural look, and pricier for more dramatic extensions. I didn't have time to book an appointment before my wedding, but I definitely wanted to. I read a few reviews on Yelp and they recommended going back to "refill" the lashes every 6-8 weeks, depending on how fast your lashes grow out.

@jayce: She was too, but she also ruined her hair with extensions and colouring, so it took days of begging and scolding to make her leave at least her poor lashes alone.

I don't have a problem with getting them done for a wedding or something like that, but I think having them regularly filled wouldn't be good for you.  Just my opinion, I'm not a professional.  Eyelashes grow back anyway.  :)

I had partials at my wedding.  They weren't the full strip but I'm not sure what company/brand they were. The person who applied my make-up put them on for me, I have a really hard time with them.

Stunning picture! I think I will invest in fake lashes or lash extensions. It looks very feminine.

I had fake individual lashes applied for the big day.  A make-up artist applied them and they were great!  As a matter of fact, I didn't notice they were on during the ceremony or reception.  And they added a great "dimension" for photos too!

I will definitely be wearing fake lashes!  I second (third/forth?) getting the individual ones... they are SO much easier to work with and look very natural.

I have very thick and dark eyelashes and love the look of dramatic lashes so mascara is my best friend and I love to add some extra individual lashes for special occasions... or just crazy sparkly ones for halloween... (these were just a long strip and not as easy to put on.)

@alabiak: Im wearing fake ones from MAC, they gave me the popular "wedding" ones..these ones vary in length so they look more natural (well thats what the sale lady told me *laugh*)

I did my own wedding makeup including falsh lashes. Makeup Forever makes really great lashes and awesome lash glue that stays through everything. I second the recommendation for using individual lashes instead of a full strip to look more natural. To put them on, use tweezers to pick up the lash cluster, dip the end in some glue, wait a few seconds for it to dry and get tacky, then place on the outer corner and work your way in if necessary. Good luck!!

a big DO!!!  My makeup artist used MAC ones on me and they were Fabulous!!!  It's ONE day when you can go all out so why the heck not!  They make you look and feel glamorous!  I had been used to wearing them before for my job, so if you've never worn them before def. try them out a few times to get used to them.  They feel funny for a few mins. but before too long you forget you even have them on!  And when your SO sees you for the first time that day, wow!  Such an impact :)

@keybee: A little harsh. There's no need to throw that word around. And I challenge you to look through photos of brides on here and pick out real vs fake lashes.

There are some lashes that definiteily look fake. Think large halloween lashes. But there are lots that are completley natural looking and just add a little something. I wore them for my epics and went out with friends that night. Not one of them had any idea I had false lashes on but they looked really great in pics. I wore the full line not individual but they are all different lengths, thats what makes them look more natural.

I say yes! I think they make a huge difference. I am planning on having a make-up artist do them for me though. If you plan to do them yourself, I would just practice and I would wear them around so you can get the hang of it and know what looks best for you!

I know I'm late on this, but I say go for it! I prefer individuals as well, and I use waterproof eyelash glue. Here's a pic of my fakes, individuals onthe outer corners:

Does anyone know if false lashes come in brown shades? Black might be too harsh for me, but I haven't found light ones.

I vote yes for false lashes. I use to wear them everyday when I lost most of mine due to chemo and they definately make a HUGE difference, opens the eye up. If you've never used them before I will tell you it takes practice and maybe check for a how-to video on youtube to give you step by step instructions. Ive always used the strip lashes but cut them to size and if I wear them now I usually just put the on the outer corner. Good luck.
