I just took a pregnancy test and I see a very faint pink line....

I thought that you are likely to have false NEGATIVES but not false positive

BUT, I took the "First Response" test and in the instructions it said that you could get a false positive.

    What do you think??

I REALLY did not want to get my hopes up today because this is our first month TTC and AF was due today...so I'm not really late. I really didn't think I was going to see anything. Now I cannot beleive what I am seeing.

It is a lot harder to get a false positive... I would take another in a few days to make sure because it is really soon. Not impossible though so good luck =)

i've heard that any line, no matter how light, is positive and that false positives are unlikely. wait a few days and try again. the more of the preggo hormone in your body, the quicker and darker the line appears.

I can't even take it!! I am going to the store right now to get a different brand.

I REALLY didn't expect anything and now I am shaking with my mind racing. Could it be??

I know that it could be a chemical pregnancy and thus why they tell us to wait until we have missed the AF.....but there is no way I can wait until tomorrow to test again...or another week, I am going to the store and dropping more $$ jsut so I can test one more time.  Then I will wait until tomorrow and try again...

if you're going to buy another one, get a digitial "pregnant" "not pregnant" one - much easier than trying to decipher the lines.

false positives are almost unheard of. was it your 1st pee of the morning? it may not have been very concentrated urine, maybe that's why it was so faint. most ppl would tell you to wait a few days for HCG to go up, but i wouldn't be patient enough to do that if i were you! i'd do another one in the morning. hope it is positive! that would be great if you and your DH got preg that 1st month. baby dust to you!

good luck! I've also heard false positives are much more rare, though not entirely impossible (winning the lottery is rare, but a few lucky individuals manage to! lol) Sounds like a good sign though :)

If you can't wait until tomorrow morning, please make sure you do not drink a ton of water in one sitting to build up any urine to test. All this does actually is dilutes it more and you could actually get a false negative. Try to have a few hr span to give it some time. I second the digital tests...I hate reading lines, but I heard even a faint line is good!

@spraguebride: Yeah...it'll be even less strong in the next test.  Waiting till tomorrow morning will give you a better result since it's still early.  Good luck!

False positives can happen! But from my experience, when I was pregnant, there was no question about it, I knew that it was a positive. Let us know the new test turns out! Goodluck!

The more hormone present, the darker the line.  If you are early on or your urine was especially dilute, it would be more faint.  You can see a faint outline if you let the test sit their for a long time even if you're not pregnant due to a certain amount of the latex that makes the color up non-specifically sticking to the + line.  If you were seeing a faint + at or before the recommended time limit, like almost as soon as the area got wet, it's more likely to be real.

    Thanks everyone!

I wish i got the digital one...but I wasn't sure if it would be easier to read than the "lines" so I got EPT...regular kind.

I just tested again and got a VERY faint X   :-)   But from what people said...it makes sense that this 2nd test would be even more faint than my 1st test.   And no...It wasn't the first pee of the day.  So it all makes sense that it is so faint.

I bought the kind that came with more than 1 test per box...so I have 3 left.

Now I wait until morning.....and do it first thing.

NO FALSE POSITIVES! The only thing a pregnancy test measures is human growth hormone which is ONLY present when you are pregnant. So it can miss the hormone if there's a small amount, which would result in a false negative, but if it picks any up resulting in a positive, you are pregnant!

A false positive isn't likely!   I think it's safe to say you can get your hopes up!!!! Take another test in the morning (first thing) and then celebrate with your hubby!

Oh yes, I have to say, you're a strong woman for waiting until the morning.  I would be drinking water like crazy and running to the store to buy about 10 more tests!  There is no way I control myself for another 15 hours!!

@KendraJ:  Oh I didn't wait!  I took the first one about noon and then this 2nd one at 3pm!  Now I am waiting because I know that at this point I will not get a darker line and will get my best results in the morning. The 2nd test was SO faint that if I didn't have the other test...I would think my eyes were making me see the faint "x".  But that pink line on the first one doesn't seem to be a trick of the eyes :-)

But I SO didn't wait...let me mention that today was when AF was due so I wasn't even technically late.  LOL!!!

Now I just start all the worries "maybe I shouldn't have tested so soon. They say that many times it's a chemical pregnancy that gets lost but you don't know if you don't test and you think you just had a late period. Maybe I shouldn't have tested today and got my hopes up"

I have a feeling that if I am pregnant...I am going to be such a worrywart for the first trimester. When you want something so badly...and know the facts about misscarriage...it's scary.

My friend is so smart. she says "stay off google!! you are young and healthy so stop stressing!!"      easier said than done  ;-)

@Mrs Green Grass:  That is why I was so shocked. I HONESTLY did not think that it would happen the first time. And it still doesn't feel real. In the morning if it's the same and darker...I think it will start to sink in.

I took it to stop myself from getting my hopes up. I thought I had implantation bleeding the other day and today was AF day and I had cramps, but not period. So I took it so I would stop thinking I was pregnant when really I was about to start my period. I expected a negative so when I saw the line, it was not what I expected.

We all know how hard it can be for many many people. I never expected to see a line, no matter how faint.(I actually almost feel guilty. Others try soooo long and I got lucky my first month?  I hate that other people ttc will feel bad when "another" person got so lucky)

Now I just have to wait for my husband to get home tonight to tell him and then re-test in the morning.  eek!!!!  :-)

i took a pregnancy test one time and it was a false positive because the second line was there, but faint. i now stick to the ones with the wording "pregnant" or "not pregnant" -- that eliminates any and all confusion!

(also - be sure you urinate first thing in the morning - that is when your urine will be most concentrated so the results will be most accurate)

my first positive was so faint I thought for sure I was making it up.  if you google "evaporation line" and make sure that that's not what you're seeing, then it's probably for real!

@tiramisu:  There is no doubt that the line is pink and I heard the E-line doesn't have color.

What is killing me now is that my husband has been gone all day at a conference and this isn't the type of thing you text.  haha!  So he has no idea...and I am sitting here going nuts waiting for him to come home. Still another 2 hours I think.  eek!  Why or why did I take a test when I was home alone all day?!!  haha! :-)

    Is it morning yet??!!!!   :-)

@ohheavenlyday: This isn't necessarily true, a friend of mine had major stress issues during nursing school, and in a hormonal imbalance started producing HCG, and even had a positive pregnancy test. However when she went to the doctor the other chemicals weren't present. So false positives can happen. She was on the pill and not TTC, so she was pretty positive it was something other than pregnancy.

Though, since you're TTC, you're definitely not using protection and having sex during fertile days, I'd say that you can pretty much consider yourself pregnant! I tested 3 days before my period was due, and got a super faint line. I mean, it didn't show up when I first took the test, so I started brushing my teeth, and by the time I was done just happened to look down and see a faint line a couple of minutes later. Every day it got a little darker, and the day my period was due I got the confirmation from my doctor and a blood test. So, good luck! I'm thinking it's probably good news for you!

That's so weird! Okay, I'll amend: no false positives except in really weird stress cases. LOL.
