    Hi there-

So we have several families whom have kids under the age of 2.  We decided it would be unfair to not allow these friends to bring their adorable babies.  But do we include the babes in our head count??

We're looking into onsite babysitting so that the families can enjoy themselves.  But in terms of the guest number (where the venue bases the cost of the reception food by head count) I'm wondering how to count these little ones.

Anyone else deal with this?  Advice is appreciated!!

Why don't you ask the venue? I doubt they'd charge you a full adult per head rate for a two year old!

it might vary though - most parents will want a chair for their squirmy, squirrely two year old, but no two year old I know would eat most reception food. Have you asked about children's meals? They may be able to whip up mac and cheese, chicken nuggets or something equally kid friendly for you.

My caterer' s rule was they do not charge if the child does not need their own seat. So any child under two would not need a seat, they also only charge 50% off the price pp for any other children under ten.

I'd just ask the vendor. We have a few babies coming, and I'm sure they're not going to charge us as they're still breast feeding.

Our caterer doesn't charge anything for kids under 5.  Hooray!  All the kids in my wedding are under 5.   She also makes little boxed food of whatever they want to eat like mac n cheese or chicken fingers.  Very Cute.  I think she charges half price for kids under 12.  I can't imagine anyone charging for a 2 yr old.  that's ridiculus

Ask the vendor: Ours have no charge for children under 5, children 5-12 are 50% off, and over 12 are full price.

I would think though that even kids under 2 may need a seat/highchair.  So although they are not eating or you may be able to get a kids dinner rate, plan on them taking up space at your table.  I am also trying to figure out a babysitter thing, but I don't think I'll be able to do on-site.  There is a hotel very near by though (like across the street).  I think we may invite kids to the cocktail hour and but then not seat them since we don't have room.
