Have any of you had a family member state that they would give you a certain amount of money for your wedding and then, they never actually give you the money?
Super awkward, huh? There is NO WAY I would ever think of asking for it (“Hey remember when you said you’d give us X-amount of dollars…”). And the money could so come in handy! Ugh!!!!
I do have birthday coming up. Usually this relative gives me a check for a present. I am kind of keeping my fingers crossed (though not getting my expectations up too much) that maybe he’ll just give a little extra and say “happy birthday/wedding”.
I was just wondering if others have had this experience.

That’s really frustrating. I really hope that those family members that offered come through for you.
My parents are the only ones helping me and they have been super helpful; however, mom has been with me when all the big expenses have been due. Maybe you could ask the relative to come with you to meet the florist, baker, etc. and see if they offer to pay at that time. Otherwise, you may end up having to pay with your own money and just call it a day 🙁

My FFIL didnt force but basically forced us to get a washer and dryer that we couldnt afford. We were going to get a cheaper model and he insisted that we get the super upgraded one and that he would pay the $1300 difference… So we did… then never saw a dime… Never take anyones word for anything..

So true eseds…..we already had a similar situation (wedding related) with one of groom’s relatives. Groom actually asked the relative for the money “Okay, we’ve found a venue and a photographer, would it be possible to get the $$ that you promised.” That relative said “Oh, I was going to give it to you a couple of days before the wedding.” *sigh* Let’s just say we are NOT counting on assistance from that person.
@stranger1: This relative is more of a “write a check” than be hands-on, lives about 3 hours away and is super busy.
Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get a wedding/birthday check in the next couple of days! That would be a much appreciated, needed surprise!
