So today is the day that I need to make my dress decision! I think I am going to wear the family wedding dress, but I want to get some input! The dress was worn in 1954 by my grandmother, and in the 80's by both my mom and aunt. What do you think?

Are there pictures? Do you feel comfortable wearing the dress and if not, do you have a dress budget prepared just in case?

If you want to wear the dress, if that's the dress you want, not your mom or your grandmother or your aunt, then go with the dress.

I think it's a lovely sentiment to wear a family wedding dress. However it's got to be what you want to get married in, not what other people want.

That's such a sweet, pretty and eternally romantic dress! If you also like it, I say go for it!  It's got such lovely sentiment behind it as well.

it's a very pretty dress!!! you could make it your own with a ribbon or sash if you wanted to... but i think it's fine all on its own and the fact that it has so much history is so friggin awesome!!

That is a very nice dress. I love the first picture where you get to see the back and you look happy in it. I think if you like the dress go for it! But if it is more THEIR dream for you to wear the dress then go with your heart.

If you don't like the dress maybe you could get pieces of it added to another dress of use the veil from that one? But I think it is a lovely dress as it is.

Wow its a beautiful dress! You look so happy (and coincidentally... you look a lot like the beautiful Rachel McAdams)!

I say wear whatever makes your heart feel best. You could go try on some dresses and see if you like those, but if you keep thinking of the dress from your family, it's probably the one!

i think it's a truly fabulous dress... .and you're really lucky your heirloom dress is so classic and chic! you might look at 1950s brides for inspiration of how to accessorize it. grace kelly marrying prince rainier comes to mind! (like, a bolero could give you a similar look.)

Oh wow, that's a timeless dress.  If you decide to wear it (which I think you should!), not only would you have a BEAUTIFUL gown to wear for your wedding, you get to wear something so sentimental as a heirloom dress, AND you don't have to spend money on a gown!  Nice!

I do love the new dress you're looking at... but I also really love the heirloom dress and how amazing would it be that you wore the same dress as your mom and grandma!!

They are both really pretty and look great on you.  I don't think there is a wrong decision here, so go with your gut!

they ARE both gorgeous, but the family dress has such a cool history behind it! It'd be hard to pass up if I were in your shoes. I wish my family were that connected!

    I love the family dress.
The one you looked at is pretty too - if you want your own dress, go for it, but the family dress is stunning on you as well.

WOW...the dress that you were looking at is really gorgeous (it kind of reminds me of your family dress). I don't think that you can go wrong because you look amazing in both of them!! Make sure to go with the gown that you feel most beautiful in regardless of others' opinions :) Let us know what you decide!!!

i love both of these dresses. i don't think there is a wrong decision here!! if you feel sentimentally attached to the family dress, i would go with that. if you really want your own brand new dress, go with the new one. if you don't have feelings either way, go with what's free!! hehe.

JUST based on pictures (and I don't know you, so I have no authority on the matter) but purely based on pictures, you absolutely GLOW in your family's dress. You have kind of look of fear/hesitancy in the other dress. You might take that into consideration. Both are beautiful gowns though!

I think both dresses look great on you.  I do think you look extra beautiful in your family dress, your smile says it all. :)  If I were you, I'd go with whatever dress felt better.

I think both dresses are comparable in beauty, but the family dress has more meaning, and I'd probaby pick that one if I were you.  BUT, if you prefer to have a new gown that's just for you, then go with the new dress.  You are the bride!  Which do you prefer?

I have made a decision!!! I am wearing my grandmother's dress. In the last few days I realized:

I think that while the Jasmine new dress is beautiful, and it is the dress that I want to get pictures in... Gran's dress is the one that I want to get MARRIED in. I think ringing in a marriage with a dress that has been worn by 3 women with very strong, admirable marriages is going to be amazing!

Thanks for all your help, girls!!

I'm glad you're going with the family dress. It's lovely, has so much history and sentimental value, and is actually very modern looking.

You're so fortunate to have such a timeless, beautiful dress as a family tradition!  It's going to mean so much to you years down the road as you're looking back at your wedding pictures!

I love your family dress.  It's very sweet and romantic without being overly so.  Also, I love 50s inspired fashion.  This dress almost seems like a dress inspired by the era.  It's not outdated at all. And I love that there is history behind it.  I would definitely go with the family dress over the new dress.
