Okay, a friend of mine asked me to post on here but I am going to let her write this because I am too lazy:
So, my family has a history of funny initials. All total accidents and all by marriage but it is too fun not to pass on.
My mother, when she got married she hyphenated her last name and her initials became LMAO (Lisa Marie A-O).
When my sister got married she just changed her last name and got the unfortunate initials of ASS (Which I think it pretty fitting but then again, I am her siste) (Amanda Sarabeth S)
When I got married I dropped my middle name and kept my maiden as my middle. O ended up as LOL (Lauren O Lighthouse)
So, with the weird and funny initials that have ended up running with the women in the family I thought it would be fun to give our twins (boy/girl) some fun/funny initials. We are stuck though. My husband wants one to be ASL but I think that might be a little insensitive. He has just always loved the name Ashlyn Sable (I am not a fan of Sable period) We are stuck though! Help! Remember, it has to end in “L”.

@Mrs Hedgehog: Haha, this is so funny! What a set of names/initials they ended up with.
First, I can only think of a few “L” sets…FML, LOL, ASL. Hmm. Maybe getting a list of those would help.

@Mrs Hedgehog: ROFL? LYL? SOL? TTYL?

I dont have any suggestions, but if I had hyphenated I would be “Mrs. B-M” which always cracks me up. My nickname, that everyone refers to me as, starts with a B, so I guess I’m BM anyway!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Haha. I don’t have any suggestions, but that is hilarious. Poor kids! 🙂
I knew a Heather Anne G—-. I always thought her parents must not have thought that one through.

@pinkandsparkly: I’ve been on and off this board for ~2 years and I still struggle with BM = bridesmaid. I always laugh when I see “HELP! BM troubles!”
I’m not very mature.

My mom wanted to name my sister Pamela Marie… but her last name begins with “S”- I suggested naming her Rebecca instead.

My married initals will be BAM lol.

I don’t have any good suggestions but my my initials pre marriage were EMO 😉 also! My dad wanted to name my sister Bridget but my mom said no because her initials would be B.O!

SQL is the only one that comes to mind. Sam Quinn is what I would use, as it would work for either gender…

Ask your friend this:
Is she comfortable explaining to her children what their initials mean? Because at some point, they’re going to catch on, and if it were me, I’d be so embarassed if my parents made a joke out of my name.
I realize that it’s become kind of a funny accident with her family, but it happened later on in life. Kids on the playground are meanies. I sincerely hope this whole post is a joke, because FML and SOL are completely inappropriate to use as guidelines for a child’s initials.
It’s one thing if it’s accidental, but on purpose? Come on. And yes, “ASL”, in this scenario, is offensive because of the intent behind it. If it was accidental, that’s one thing, but I really think this whole thought is ridiculous. What if their child was deaf? Who’d be laughing then?
Maybe I’m just taking this whole thing too seriously, but I think naming a child is a big responsibility, and it’s important to not name your kid anything that will get them made fun of.
