Is anyone having someone "famous" or well-known expected to come to your wedding? I've read crazy stories with people sending invites to the President, Minnie&Mickey or other well know people. I think it's crazy to spend a pricey invite to people who (duh) won't make it.
FI's cousin (who we are very close with) is actually on an MTV reality show right now, that's the closest to a "famous" guest that we will have. How about you guys?
I think the point of sending wedding invitations to famous people like Mickey and Minnie or the president is because they will often send you back a wedding keepsake. I think Minnie and Mickey send you a signed photo of them in their wedding clothes, and the president sends you a signed picture of him (or the first family) with well-wishes for your wedding day. Has anyone here done this? I am interested to know what the person wrote back (or if they even replied!).
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone famous, so it'll just be us regular folk at our wedding. ![]()
I went to wedding where Jenna Fischer (Pam from The Office) was a bridesmaid. It was right after she had broken her back though so she really laid low.
The closest we're getting to "famous" is the DJ we hired. He's one of the brothers of Gary Cherone, from Extreme, who sang More Than Words. Haha.
My sister married a baseball player back in 2006 and since I know calligraphy I addressed all her invitations. I had personal addresses to two teams' worth of players (he got traded halfway through their engagement so they invited both teams). My ex-BF (BF at the time) was so excited for that wedding. I am glad we broke up before, so he didn't get to go! (I'm so mean.)
Hehe, Mama Bruschetta always mentioned people she'd like to invite -- usually singers, for some reason. Bruce Springstein's the most recognizable name on her list of favorites.
We know a couple of famous people, but they weren't at my wedding. How cool your FI's cousin in on an MTV show, though! Do you mind sharing what show it is?
I'm so totally going to send invites to the Disney princesses...just to see what they would send back!
Mrs. Lemon wrote this post on this very subject!

I love anything Disney, so I had considered sending one to Mickey, but that was just one more thing to do!
Since I bought WAY too many invitations we're sending some to famous people. Actors from LOST, Mickey & Minnie and The President. I know none of them will show but I'm hoping for some autographed pictures! :)
David Cooke is supposedly attending my friend's wedding this summer (as a date of a friend of the bride, who is an Idol exec) and another guest is Posh/Beckam's nanny (friend of the bride).
Our wedding will be celeb-free though.
Yeah, I guess that makes sense to invite those people.
I forgot to say that my uncle is good friends with Jeff Geary formerly of the Philadelphia Phillies (I'm a HUGE Phils fan). He went to Jeff's Destination Wedding and so many of the Phils were there including Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard! How cool!!!! I'm still so jealous of my uncle for this.
Eh, what the heck. FI's cousin is "Lank" on "From G's to Gents" lol. He is totally NOT a G by the way, its an act -- that's his style but definitely not as extreme as it comes across lol.
One of our wedding guests is the writer of the show Lincoln Heights (on FOX Fam?). What with all the drama that went on during our wedding (another issue), she should have brought her note pad and start taking notes for the show.
My now mother in law is also a mayor of her home town.
This is too funny! I don't know anybody famous, but I'd rather it stay that way, muah ha ha! My MOH went to school with David Cook though. The closest I ever came to a *famous* person was in Cali when I got yelled at by crazy Dennis Rodman for accidentally going to his restaurant instead of the Crab Shack next door. I wasn't dressed appropriate, and i was a 17 year old, so I got kicked out! Sorry, I didn' tknow any better!
Adam Sandler and Sarah Silverman are from my same home town and Adam went to my high school (and we are friendly with Adam's sister and family), but he won't be coming to my wedding!
We sent an invitation to the President and he responded back with a card that we're going to put in our scrapbook. We knew full well that he wouldn't come but he does send a nice keepsake back on White House stationery (which is quite lovely!). Of course we didn't spend a ton on our invitations either (we printed them ourselves), which for us was definitely not a top priority.
@lbutler, was this from our current President? I am so excited to get a card from them!!!!
We invited President and Mrs. Obama. Obviously, I know they won't attend, but I thought it would be cool to get something back from the White House. :)
Our wedding was last Fall so it was from the former President Bush & Laura, but I'm sure it's pretty standard for the White House to respond to a wedding invitation regardless.
I supported Obama in the election, hopefully he and his family supports me on the wedding day ;)
We do have a couple of semi-famous friends in their various areas of expertise... but more like athletes and musicians rather than A list celebrities. We like to dabble on the D or even Z- list!
Awesome thread! I never knew you could send an invitation to the president and get such a cute momento in return! Awesome!
@Erindesmar, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Adam Sandler, seriously all my family members know he is my FAVORITE Celeb of all time!! ![]()
Here's how to invite the President following proper ettiquette:
The Honorable Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama
The White House
Greetings Office Rm. 39
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, DC 20500
Also, my FI and I thought it would be hilarious to have each of us invite 5 celebrities and see what kinds of responses we get back and read them aloud at our dinner as a mock toast to those who weren't able to join us.
Randomly, we had a Broadway director and a model from Deal or No Deal at our wedding. Both came with people who were invited.
No one famous will be at our wedding, but I was a bridesmaid at a wedding where the Rolling Stones showed up in 2004. My friend married their personal chef in Toronto. No one was allowed to talk to them lol.
PS. She hates all of them & claims Keith Richards is the most vile human being she's ever encountered.
I'm going to invite Karl Lagerfeld, but I know his fabulous and crazy ass won't show. :p
I just love him though. <3
I sent an invite to the Obamas but so far haven't received a reply. I hope I get a cool keepsake!
@fiftyfootbride: do u follow karl's tweets? (um, yeah, we're on a first name basis...lol.) i kind of enjoy them. but, oh, the vanity he possesses! he follows noone. is he trying to make a statement?
ok, that was random. anyone receive anything from the Obamas yet?
I still haven't received anything from President and Mrs. Obama and our invitations were sent in March. :( I thought they would send something!
I wanna hear what people got in reply - then I'll decide if I'm sending an invite or not to these people ... and most likely I will send them a cheapie version of them.
I never thought of inviting a celebrity! My FH is a huge fan of Guns n Roses. I want to invite Axl Rose lol. I doubt he'll send us anything though :/ but it would make FH's life if he did! Gotta find the address...
@ladybuglove- are you talking about fakekarl? if you aren't following his, you should be. hi-lar-i-ous. i didn't know that real uncle karl twittered.
a few of my favorites:
fakekarl I'm always very critical of clingy mothers. My own mother gave me a suit at four and told me to get to work.
fakekarl Designing Chanel is like practicing scales<span
fakekarl There's a break in the pipeline that delivers diet Coke directly to my house, so I'm having to walk to the nearest...what do you call them?
fakekarl The nearest diet Coke fountain? Where do they sell diet Coke? Is there a boutique that sells it? That's not a bad idea, actually..
oh, karl. :p
One of our groomsmen is an actor (not super famous but probably will be soon, has 3 big movies coming out and has been one of the main characters in 24, My Own Worst Enemy, Ghost Whisperer, Over There, and Sleeper Cell). Our good friend who is playing the piano for our ceremony is a very popular music producer. Honestly, I'm sort of hoping it's more laid back and our guests aren't familiar with them.
I don't even know who this karl person is but diet coke boutique made me laugh lol
Hhmm I know the members of the band Cowboy Mouth...maybe I'll invite them :) :)
My FI grew up with NASCAR driver Carl Edwards (#99 - the one who does back flips). They keep in touch, and we actually went to his wedding back in January! We sent him an invite, though I'm sure he won't be able to make it since they will most likely be racing that day.
I have a very famous cousin but his mother married my dad's brother when he (the actor) was an adult so he probably won't be coming...but his mom will be! (He didn't go to my sister's wedding a year ago, but then, I don't think she invited him! lol) I won't say who he is but let's just say he's won an Oscar and has starred in Saving Private Ryan, The Departed, and The Ocean's Trilolgy...among others. ;)
@thecolorteale- Karl Lagerfeld is the head designer for Chanel. He's fabulous, batnuts crazy, and just generally awesome.
One of my dad's good friends throws a lot of parties where there are a ton of B-list celebs, and a few A-list (as in, I'm not exactly on top of celeb gossip or anything, but I know who ALL of these people are). The good friend is invited to my wedding, but we don't know any of the celebrities well enough. ;) Darn!
When I was in school the mother of Myles Kennedy (Lead singer of Alter Bridge) was a teacher. I doubt they will come to our wedding, though. I also want to invite Ac/Dc just to see what kind of response I would get if we said something like "free beer". lol.
Oh I wish I knew some celebs. Aaron Tveit would be on my VIP guest list for sure (Broadway actor). Although i probably wouldn't make it down the aisle if he showed up ;)
