Saw this on facebook and wanted to share! Here is the story that was with the post:
I couldn’t believe my eyes when this guy walked in and showed me this project. I think my jaw literally hit the floor. He went on to tell me the story behind the portrait; He had just married his beautiful wife and not even three months afterwards she was killed in a horrible house fire accident leaving him to raise their three children alone. Shortly after he went to a local tattoo studio to memorialize his wife and was left with this abomination. He later returned to that studio for one more session, thinking that perhaps “he had done something wrong in the healing of the tattoo” and they butchered it even more the second time. Finally, he drove all the way to my studio, Empire Ink, just to meet me and to see what his options were. Touched by his story, I gifted the entire project to him for free. Now he has closure and I have an amazing story to add to my portfolio

I’ve seen that online (the original) and didn’t know the story behind it, just the horrible tattoo job. I am so glad to know the story behind it and really glad that a tattoo artist donated his time to fix it and make it a beautiful memorial tattoo.

Wow… I can’t believe someone did that to him – the original tattoo. It’s awful, and the fact that it’s a memorial tattoo makes it even more awful. The new one is spectacular. Anyone who thinks tattoos aren’t art, needs to see that.

I remember seeing the original and thinking WTF!? Yeah they did an amazing job fixing it. Now it actually looks like the picture. The first one was so bad.

I’ve seen this before picture too and I’ve never heard the story behind it. The new one is amazing and I’m glad he got it fixed.

I’ve seen the original a bunch–this is why portrait tattoos are a really bad idea, unless you KNOW the artist is amazing with portraits. But I’m so glad that he kept looking and found someone to make it beautiful, AND that the guy did it for free.

Thats awesome. I didnt know the story behind it, but I’ve seen the original tattoo all over the internet. Im glad he got it re-done, and Im glad he went to a much better artist to do so! Can you even imagine how distraught he must have been after seeing the first tattoo? Im sure it didnt help his grief at all.
