Cute idea or lame? I don't feel like spending $30 on each girl's bouquet (that's $120 right there, not counting my own), and fans are relatively inexpensive. I'd probably still give the flower girl a basket of silk petals or something (she'll be three years old by the time of our wedding), and will maybe have a bouquet for myself (I want to give my bouquet to my grandma, who may or may not be there with us), but for everyone else, I'm fond of fans.

Would that be too weird? And, as always, a poll. =P

Just a heads-up: I'm not terribly fond of pomanders/kissing balls and refuse to use them, haha.

Also (god, I feel like I'm beating a dead horse by saying this in every post, but I think it's necessary), we're keeping everything within the realm of the 40s/50s, so would fans be appropriate to that era?

@bells: If you don't mind me asking, where did you find your fans? MOH has been helping me look a little bit, but I'm always open to new sites, lol.

Oh i haven't bought mine yet but I saw nice silk ones on efavormart.com. I like that site cos they have a variety of block colors unlike other sites that have mostly patterened fans

I think it's such a cute idea. It's trendy now to do other things besides flowers anyways.  I went to a wedding recently where the girls carried blingy cluches. I love it.

I've been to a wedding where the BMs carried a fan and had on a wrist corsage.  A good way to save on flower costs!

What about a wrist corsage or maybe a cute clutch?

@zippylef: Each corsage is still between $12 and 15, which is pricey with four attendants and then three moms. I've seen fans going for $5 a pop, so it's a no-brainer. :) Clutches tend to be expensive, too.

@Statutory Grape: You could also make clutches. They are REALLY easy. There's an awesome tutorial on the Hive somewhere. You can get the metal bits off etsy for pretty cheap.

    I'm a fan. /rimshot

In seriousness, I love the fan idea!  No idea whether they're period or not, though.  Sorry! I think that would be fun.

DIY flowers --- buy them individually

simple flowers are better than no flowers

and if you buy your own ribbon to tie them, you can do $5 p bouquet

    (pick cheaper flowers)

    it can look fabulous!

I love the idea of Bridesmaids walking down the aisle with fans. I've thought about using it myself and there are some gorgeous wooden, lace, silk, and paper fans available on the web. However, I am not sure it will fit well with your 40's/50s theme. If I remember correctly, you are having an evening wedding. Have you thought about candles? Maybe you can even have candles line the aisles and as the Bridesmaids walk down they can light each one in preparation to your entrance. If not, I think a 40's/50's style clutch will work better.
