Hi bees!  My husband and I are planning a trip to London and Paris this July, and we need wardrobe advice.  We've both been to Europe before (he lived in Berlin, I lived in London and traveled to Europe fairly often), but we're out of touch with the fashion world.  Any advice?  We're both fairly stuck in our jeans and a tshirt patterns...  Thanks!

Hi there, I'm a Texan who has been living in Manchester, UK for about 4 months now.  The biggest thing I've noticed is that the women's fashion is very 80's based.  There are lots of leggings/jeggings and small floral prints, full skirts, or strangely proportioned bulky skirts.  Personally, I don't really like it... There are also a ton of maxi dresses around.

As for men's fashion there are lots of skinny jeans and cropped pants.

You could check out next.co.uk for more ideas.

    Hope that helps

Hey I live in London and a quite classic/luxury look is huge here right now... Silk t-shirts, cashmere cardigans with a skinny belt etc. No offense to dallastomanchester's advice but I would say that Next sells quite basic, non-trend fashion that won't really give you a specific idea of what is in trend right now and is probably pretty similar to what you see in the US. Maxi dresses are definitely everywhere now though. I think the main difference between european and american style is that we wear jeans less and when we do it's darker denim and a tighter fit. Shoes are also very different - I don't know if you wear sneakers a lot but in London/Paris no-one wears them (even non-sporty ones) unless they are working out... Gladiator sandals and ballet pumps are best for summer and smart brogues/knee high boots for colder days. 80s was quite trendy a few years ago but now it's mostly younger teenagers who wear jeggings and bubble skirts etc.

what about topshop? when i went to Cambride a few months ago, the girls there told me I "must" go there and that's where they all shopped. But it was seriously like an 80's disco party in there and I couldn't do it =]. I did pick up a few flouncy blouses that I LOVE that i get compliments on all the time in the US, though. They're really cute, frilly, nice, like what MrsT2B is saying is in. Yay, score for me!

Here's topshop. Not sure if it's too "teen" or not but i saw older girls in there. I like French Connection, too--it's more sophisticated but i also know it's just a chain. We don't have it in the midwest but they had one in Cambridge and it was SO CUTE

Boots+leggies were very in, but I went in the winter. Also peacoats and whatnot. When i went in the summer a year ago (probably outdated) lingerie style dresses with big belts and ruffly skirts+tshirts+belts were in. And definitely the gladiator sandals. Also I'd say summer scarves are probably in.

I'm curious though--i'm going back in September =]
