So, FI and I have been going back and forth about first dance songs. I had originally wanted to dance to All of Me by John Legend. The song has special meaning to us. He arranged for a singer friend of ours to play it in the middile of one of his sets and FI took the mic and made a speech in front of 200+ people and proposed to me during this song. However, we talked about it and decided to hire the singer for our ceremony and I’ll be walking down the aisle to it instead. The thought of this gives me chills. It’s perfect! I get all choked up thinking about it…
This left us wondering about our first dance song. FI and I are silly. We want to make our guests smile from ear to ear, plus we both really love to shake it! So we’d like to dance to a fast-ish song for our first dance to make it fun since the sappiness will be at the ceremony. Nothing obnoxious. We’re not going to do the whole starting with a slow dance, “oh just kidding! Aren’t we fun!” thing. Although that’s kind of funny, it’s a bit overdone and we want to go for fun, not cheesy (no offense meant to anyone who has done this. It’s just not for us). I guess we’re going more for “cute” fun than “goofball” fun.
Some of the songs we’ve thought of are:
Everlasting Love by Natalie Cole
Only Want to Be With You by Hootie & the Blowfish
(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher by Jackie Wilson
You Are the Best Thing – Ray LaMontagne (this isn’t upbeat enough for FI)
You Make My Dreams come True – Hall & Oates
Any more ideas?
