So I literally have 23 days until my wedding and am struggling with a father daughter dance song.
I dont want it to be your typical song, my parents have been divorced since I was 4 and me and my dad have always had a great bond through music, he’s very into southern rock, I grew up on lynyrd skynyrd, Stevie ray Vaughn, johnny cash and so on. Its been a rough ride with him as ive always had to somewhat watch him.
I need something with meaning, please help!

Me and my dad are dancing to Sting – Every Breath You Take as he has always said it his song to me.
Me and mum are dancing to Bob Dylan – Make you Feel my Love – the words are so app for a parent/child, it’s lovely!! But we will prob go with the Adele version.
Is there anything that instantly makes you think of him when you hear it? Thats what I’d go on.

The song “simple man” always reminded me of my dad. But we are using “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw.
Sail to the moon by RAdio head
arms wide open by Creed
Isn’t she lovely Stevie Wonder

I am using “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty. Such a lovely song about love and freedom.

Oh oh — if your dad loves Johnny Cash (and god, don’t we all?), what about his cover of The Beatles’ “In My Life”? It is such a beautiful recording, it always makes me weepy.
There is also his gorgeous version of “You Are My Sunshine,” but IMO that song resonates more with a romantic kind of love that I’d be uncomfortable with for a father/daughter dance.

@Jessicaej21: Aerosmith “Don’t wanna miss a thing”

@brlabrat: I have considered in my life by Johnny cash but I’m worried it might sound too sad?

My father and I are dancing to Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison, it is such a sweet song and not incredibly common or cheesy!

@Honey-Bee: It could be a bit sad I suppose — his voice was always a little mournful on slow songs. But I think it’s so sweet and heartfelt. Then again, there is always the original Beatles version if the tone is a concern!

I struggled with it too, so I had my dad give me a top 3. All three of his would seem close to your music taste, I think:
1) It’s For My Dad by Nancy Sinatra
2) Father and Daughter by Paul Simon
3) When You Need Me by Bruce Springsteen
I picked the Springsteen song, I liked it best.

My dad and I danced to “I Wish You Peace” by The Eagles. It was perfect.

So following the related threads I found Bruce Springsteen – when you need me. That might just be the one for me and my papa!

@giru618: I love When You Need Me! I’m planning on doing a special dance with my uncle cause we’ve always had a really close relationship and I’m using that song! Its so perfect, I can’t believe I’d never heard it until I started looking for songs for that dance!
My dad and I will be dancing to My Little Girl by Tim McGraw.

Our dad’s have similar music tastes it seems, OP. What about simple man? Idk if it would work but I always liked it. I just looked some songs up. What about American girl by Tom petty (like PP said), or guns n roses -sweet child of mine? (Sheryl crow does a nice version too).
I think Beatles in my life is a great one! I used to want the song there goes my life by Kenny Chesney. Another idea is daughters by John Mayer.
