I'm hoping for "Never Alone" by Lady Antebellum... dad wanted to have a say, so I'm waiting to hear back from him before it's final.
Tracy Chapman's cover of "Stand by Me" was pretty awesome too.
We danced to "Walk with You" by Edwin McCain. My dad and I arent super close so we didnt want a sappy song. Its still very sentimental though. Plus, I feel like many father-daughter songs are creepy.
The song I'm using is "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman. It has a LOT of sentimental value to me (I used to dress up as Cinderella almost every day and I'd dance with him; the song is basically my life story). It does, however, apply to a lot of father/daughter relationships even if you weren't obsessed with Cinderella as a child. :P
I want to use "I loved her first"- Heartland.. but it makes me cry like a baby so I'm not sure. I like "My little girl"- Tim McGraw too. Good luck!!
I'll Stand By You - Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders
We are dancing to "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw. Both my dad and I are huge Tim fans and it is such a pretty song.
My dad canNOT dance, but I want SO BAD to dance to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - the Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell version (the one from Remember the Titans).

The lyrics are so perfect, and the song has meaning from when I was younger. ANNNND I wouldn't cry! But again, it's a little too uptempo for him.
We danced to "You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor... love that song :)
I'ma dding this to my favorites to see what other Bees say :-)
My dad and I will be dancing to Landslide- Fleetwood Mac :)
The song we're gonna dance to is "Sing Me a Song Again, Daddy" My dad and I used to sing that song when I was a little girl.
But what he won't know is I'm going to record myself singing it and that's what's gonna play while we're dancing.
Thanks ladies! I'm sure he's gonna start crying, which will start me off too! If you have time, you should listen to it...it's a really nice song. The bridge makes me cry every time?
@Ms.Dachshund: I just listened to that and cried....so I think it's very sappy, but in a good way! Wow, never heard that one before but I loved it!
I love the song Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. Dad used to give me butterfly kisses every night before bed, so it does have a lot of siginificance to us. I just wish it wasn't so overused.
@gDJ1013: Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions!! You all gave some really good choices
@Ms.Dachshund: I have never heard this before, and it made my cry. Beautiful, I am going to have to send this to my dad. It's very fitting for us, "your mom handed you to me" as he came into my life at the age of 3 and became my dad in every way.
Thanks for sharing this song.
I'm also really really close to my dad and honestly, I am nothing but ubelieveably excited and thrilled to marry my future husbad. I'm not at ALL worried about crying when I see him...I'll be too busy beaming from ear to ear. My dad is another story. My biggest fear is how both of us are giong to lose it when we see each other. We are very delicate about the issue of wedding day, wedding dress, giving me away, father-daughter dance, etc as of now, so my goal is to NOT do anything super sweet and emotional (although his song for me is "there goes my life" by kenny chesney) but I do NOT want to be blubbering on the dance floor. I want to keep it upbeat but still sweet.
It may seem weird, but right now I"m leaning towards "Wildflowers" by Tom Petty. I just love it and it reminds me of summer nights with my family on the back porch of our beach house. Thoughts?
@Iloveyourlovethemost: love that song, great choice :) the original version or the live version where she says in the beginning "this is for you, daddy"?
I love "My Dad" by Ray Stevens. I've always envisioned that for the father-daughter dance, but I think I would cry my eyes out.
Some of the lyrics don't really match because my Dad is so talented in so many areas. (Among those being the best shot of the entire police dept!) He is very humble and quiet about his talents, but over the years I learn more and more about the amazing things he's done.
The main verse of the song always gets me! "My dad could be up your dad, but he wouldn't..." :)
We will be dancing to " My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw..... chokes me up every time! I like sappy, though... I think our wedding will be very happy and upbeat, so to have a special moment with my Dad... even if it is cliche... is something I definitely want! My Dad and I are extremely close and he is disabled, so he stayed and raised me while my mom worked to provide...so we have always been buds!
My dad and I danced to "Walk with You" by Edwin McCain, too! We had the DJ fade it out halfway through though because we felt like it was super long, and my dad isn't super comfortable in front of a lot of people. It's sooooo sweet though!
My dad and I are deciding between The Temptations "My Girl" and Otis Redding's "That's how strong my love is." He is a much better dancer than I am, so he's pulling for "My Girl." I'm pulling for the slower Otis Redding song.
My dad and I will be dancing to I'm Already There by Lonestar.
My parents are divorced, and there was a nasty custody battle, and when I was a kid, I only got to talk to him on the phone, never see him in person. He told me once that the lyrics are him.
"I'm already there
Take a look around
I'm the sunshine in your hair
I'm the shadow on the ground
I'm the whisper in the wind
I'm your imaginary friend
And I know I'm in your prayers
Oh, I'm already there"
And when I moved to university, he reminded me again that he's the whisper in the wind. And to this day, we send that lyric back and forth to each other. I love it. And I cant wait to dance with my dad, even though I'm going to bawl!
My dad and I will be dancing to "Lullabye" by Billy Joel. It is such a beautiful song! It makes me cry everytime I hear it.
We're going with The Wonder of You by Elvis Presley. No personal significance, it's one we could both agree on.
When You Need Me, by Bruce Springsteen.
My dad wanted something much cheesier - but we both love The Boss - so this was a happy compromise :)
My dad and I both love the movie The Jerk, so I picked the Eddie Vedder version of Tonight You Belong To Me. I'm totally going to cry, I'm already emotional just thinking about it!
Thanks a LOT ladies, now I'm bawling after looking up some of these suggestions
We're having heartland's I loved her first. Neither dad or I can listen to it without crying. Which I have a feeling that we're going to need shares in Kleenex for this wedding!
My father loves the song That's Amore by Dean Martin. It's not a traditional father-daugther song, and I'm sure some people wondered why we picked it. But I have so many memories of my dad singing it throughout my childhood, and he was really flattered that I picked his favorite song to dance to.
Leaning towards Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel. Randomly heard it on my way home from work years ago and the line "don't need no clever conversation" epitomizes my Dad and I. We could sit in a room for hours not saying a word to each other, it's just enough to both be there. Uggh, crying as I write!
Oddly enough my Dad loves Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway...he has no idea who she is...I think it reminds him of home and his childhood. (He's an immigrant) I just don't know if the lyrics fit....
