I haven't discussed it with my dad yet, but I'm pretty sure he'll want to do My Girl, and I think it's a cute one.
I have a pretty good relationship with my father these days, but I know what you mean about sobbing on the dance floor ;). I'm afraid I'm going to be a wreck no matter what song I pick!
My dad used to sing I walk through the Garden to me when I was little, so I picked that one, and he actually had the opportunity to use my Pastor's recording studio to record it. So we will be dancing to him singing!
I am planning on "Me and My Shadow" by Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. Not very traditional to say the least but my dad would call me shadow as a kid and always sang the chorus of the song, so for us it is super appropriate...he won't know until the music starts playing what we are dancing to. I think he'll get a kick out of it :)
My mom asked us to do wind beneath my wings. Yeah, could you get any more tear-jerky? Jeez. I'm sure I'll be bawling the whole time.
Me and my dad danced to "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman. It's a song along the same lines of Butterfly Kisses. My dad cried when he first heard the song, and then I cried when I first heard it during our dance. It was perfect.

He cried when he asked me, only second time i have EVER seen my dad cry!
We are dancing to You Raise me Up - totally corny, but perfect for us, and our band plays it.
How about In My Life by the Beatles?
I have a not so smooth relationship and thought about ditching it all together. In the end, i let him pick the song and he chose "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder.

Hi all,
I am having a really hard time picking a song for my dance with my dad. My dad and I aren't exactly close but I am so happy that he's coming to the wedding (for a while I wasn't sure that he would). I love him but we just aren't all that connected emotionally, but just thinking about our dance brings up all these mixed feelings. I can't even listen to the songs I'm considering without tearing up. I'm afraid I'm going to turn into a sobbing mess on the dance floor!
Anyway, these are the songs I'm thinking about:
My Hero (Wind Beneath My Wings) - Gladys Knight and the Pips
Kind and Generous - Natalie Merchant. I like this one a lot and it's the one that doesn't make me cry right off the bat, but it also has sort of a funky beat and I'm not sure how easy it would be for us to dance to it.
Anyone else have a not-so-smooth relationship with their dad? What did you dance to? Thanks all!
