I think that'd be a great way to recognize him without giving him any of the "too sentimental" traditions. Just make absolutely sure that your FI wants him up there too.

Hello Bees,
I have a question that might seem strange to some. Would it be inappropriate to ask my future father-in-law to be the MC.
He has not been involved in the planning of the wedding in any way shape or form. Long story, but my FI and his father were never very close growing up. He was raised by just my mother-in-law. Just recently his father has reached out to him (but more on a business level than a father/son relationship). However, things are good between them.
My father in law is a brillant writter and eloquent speaker, without being uptight. He is a writter (owns his own cultural newspaper) and an entertainer by profession. He knows how to capture the attention of the crowd which is great.
I asked my FI what he thinks and he doesn't care either way.
What do you think?
