We're just buying our parents gift certificate's to their favorite restaurants. I'm not specifically buying FI's mom a gift just from me.
Not that I'm aware of in any etiquette books. You can if you want to or feel a special need to, but I didn't do anything.
Never heard of a specific "to father from Future son in law" gift. Usually the B&G get each set of parents a gift.
I don't know about one of you buying gifts for a specific person, but we bought gifts for all parents, jointly. Our moms got picture frames, and my dad (his passed away) got some new flannel PJs from Nordys. He needed them. :) Yes, he did tear a hole in them within a week, but whatever.

Does the groom have to buy a father of the bride gift? My fiance brought this up last night and I had no idea what to tell him.
And, conversely, does the bride have to buy the mother of the groom a gift? Or any other parent?
