I have been trying to come up with an idea for a song for a father/daughter dance.  I really want to steer away from sappy songs.  My dad is really funny and goofy and I don't want to play something boring.

We used to go to father/daughter dances and tear it up on the dance floor.  But I just can't think of a good song for the occassion.

    Any suggestions?

Just the two of us, i'm not sure who sings the orginal version

    OR

how about asking your dad what he has in mind. I'm leaning toward a not-so-sappy song as well but for the oppisite reason, my dad is MAJOR cry-baby. I'm thinking of letting my dad choose the song so he feels more involved than just writing the checks.

Also thinkign of having a slideshow during our dance of pics of us together as i was growing up. ditto for my Fi and his mom.

I danced with my uncle to In My Life by the Beatles.  My uncle loves the Beatles so I figured I'd go with something he actually liked.

I don't think it was too sappy and it was pretty good to dance to.  A little more up tempo than most father/daughter songs are.

I'm actually letting my dad choose the song and it will be a surprise for me that day. I trust my dads judgemnt for a song like this and I think that it will be even more special to him this way. He's really excited about it too!

I am pretty sure my dad and I will dance to "My Girl" by the Temptations.  He loves motown, and I don't want anything too mushy or sappy, and I remember him singing this to me when I was a little girl.  So it works perfectly!

I think it's a neat idea to let him pick out the song as a surprise for me, but I think I'd like to surprise him.

At my brother's wedding there wasn't a father/daughter dance or a mother/son dance, and so I like the idea of not mentioning to him that it is happening.  I like the idea of it being a surprise for him.

I didn't want to do something sappy either.  I was going to do a song that was from my child hood.  I disney song or something.  But I ended up doing Thanks Heaven for little girls.  It was really cool! :)

I'm dancing to Mr. Bojangles with my Dad because he used to sing it to me as a baby/kid.

My FI, however, is not very sappy with his mom so they are dancing to The Twist! They are going to go out all serious like there is a sappy slow song coming on, and then the DJ is going to crank the Twist and they'll get the party started. I think it's going to be hilarious...

I agree with above posters...ask your Dad if he has any ideas. I think Ted's mom came up with The Twist idea...
