Hi Ladies –
I’m 37, and am considering using Elton John’s “Your Song” as my father/daughter dance. Any thoughts on that song and/or other suggestions? I can’t stand super-sappy songs like “Daddy’s Little Girl”, but I want something sweet. I also feel that at my age, I’m too old for the leaving-home-for-the-first-time type songs. Your feedback/suggestions will be appreciated!

I don’t know. If you like it, you should use it. But I personally don’t think of it as anything but a romantic love song, and I do love the song by the way. Is “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac one of those leaving home songs? Because I think thats a good one…

Landslide is a break-up song.

@Melini: Yeh, it could be, but its also about how life changes. I think the lyrics actually fit really well for a parent/child relationship.
PS: We used “The River” by Garth Brooks but I know a lot of people don’t like to use country.

I feel your pain (I’m 39, and most father daughter dance songs would have been just plain silly). We did Sunshine on my Shoulders because we used to sing that while fishing. I think Your Song would be just fine!

I plan to do 100 years- by 5 for fighting. My FI will dance with his mom at the same time to it.

I asked my father and I was surprised that he had an answer. At that point it didn’t matter what the song was he chose. I knew that if he could answer the question that it meant something to him.
