My father wants to do the chicken dance for just this reason. We have decided to dance to "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof. We started listening to it everyday so that we are sort of desensitized to it by the time the day comes, and hopefully we don't cry like small children.
Good luck!
We're using "My little girl" by Tim Mcgraw, though since i picked that i can barely listen to it without crying so i can't imagine what the wedding day will be like!
This may not be what you are looking for but the song is called butterfly kisses. It is really beautiful and always makes me cry.... but in a happy way of course lol
My dad and mys song is Unforgetable by Nat King Cole...it alwasy has been...so that's what we are going to dance to
We did a joing mother/son and father/daughter dance to Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.
I am VERY close with my dad as well and teared up just thinking about him walking me down the aisle and dancing with him. However when it came time for both I was just so happy that I didn't cry and just really really enjoyed it.
If we had done a father/daughter dance by itself we probably would have done "Wind Beneath My Wings" which would have really had me sobbing. My sister and I sang that for my dad on his 60th birthday about 8 years ago and everyone at the party was in tears.
We just did a joint mother/father dance with My Wish by Rascall Flats. We honestly didn't even pay attention to the music as we talked the whole time.
We're having Come Sail Away by Styx for the parent/kid dance. It gets fast, so that cheers things up. I'm a Ramones kind of girl and most trad father/daughter dance songs have kind of creepy undertones to me...
We are dancing to "Daughter" by Loudon Wainwright III
You can listen to it here, it makes me cry everytime even though it is so upbeat and happy

There are lists of songs for every wedding moment imaginable!
I'm walking down the aisle to "Daddy" by Kendall Payne, it is a tear-jerker! My mom and I cried when we heard it and I knew it was perfect. I know a lot of the comments said that they were gonna use it for the father-daughter dance. I'll be dancing w my dad to "A song for my daughter" by Ray Allaire. I liked it because it has an old fashioned sound and the lyrics are beautiful. My dad loved it too!
My father and i danced to Have I told you lately and with my stepfather : Thank god for kids.
We used "You've Got a Friend," by James Taylor. And I agree with PP, the key is to listen to it until you're desensitized!
We are dancing to My Girl by the Temptations. It's a faster paced song, so hopefully it will be minimal crying.
I think your idea to mix a slow with a fast song is a great one! Plus, it will be fun for your guests instead of hearing one long emotional song!
I think we are going to use Sweet Pea- by Amos Lee...
Its the only song that I can sit through and not cry when I'm thinking about dancing with my pops :D
@petitfour: Love that song! Im contemplating that one for my cake cutting song.
My father and I were going to dance to "Never Let Go" by Rascal Flatts. Its a beautiful song. I never cried to it before, but now that my dad is gone, I tear up everytime I hear it.
We went with something really old: “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. For us it was perfect.
I am having a really hard time with music in general. Slow songs aren't really what I listen to and so many of them are just sooo cheesy. I also thought about "Daughter" by Loudon Wainwright. Now I am thinking about Stand By Me. I am rooting for "let It Be Me" by Ray Lamontagne for our first dance.
I'm going with I Loved Her First by Heartland too. It's a tearjerker. :)
My dad and I are dancing to My Hero (the acoustic version) by Foo Fighters.
@MrsProf: We are dancing to that song too!...also a joint father/daughter mother/son dance
perfect song :)
I am thinking that my father & I will also use My Girl by the Temptations...it is a little faster pace and its one of those songs that just kind of makes you smile. I think it should cut down on some of the emotionalness or at the least the ugly crying.
We used Answer by Sarah Mclaughlin - one of his favourite singers, and a song that was slow, but nice.
I dont think I'll be having a daddy daughter dance, but if I do it will probably be Darius Rucker - It wont be like this for long.
It doesnt fit my dad though. Which is why I'm thinking I probably wont do it at all.
hmmm, my hero by foo fighters sounds good....I'm having a problem since I'm not a sentimental person....but would like to have the father daughter dance....I'm also a rock chick

Hi everyone!! This is my first post, and I really need some help with Father/Daughter dance song!!
I'm already a really emotional person, and I know I will be especially on my wedding day... my dad and I are really, really close. I'm really excited about sharing that moment with him, but just thinking about it already makes me cry, so I can't even imagine how bad it will be on the day! I don't mind having a tender moment but I am really worried about straight up ugly-crying on the dance floor and really would like to avoid that... Even if it's an upbeat song, I'm still going to cry just because of the nature of it, so I'd like to minimize that...
Dad really wants a slow-er song, so I'm looking for a compromise. Sweet and slow, but minimal emotional-ness... (I won't need any help in this department! haha)
We have even considered starting with a slower song and splicing into a faster one ("September" by Earth, Wind and Fire because we have lots of fun memories to that song and even a special funny dance we always do haha) and I think that might help offset some of my crying by making it more fun and upbeat (which is more our personalities- goofy and fun haha)
Thoughts on this?? Thanks so much!!
