My husband and I already have our baby boy name picked out, but we can't decide on our girl name!

We narrowed it down to two - which one do you ladies like better?

We don't have any middle name for Adelaide yet, but if we chose Gemma, it would be Gemma Cheryl Jynette after both her grandmother's (our mom's).

@smiles731: haha you made me laugh! I'm not sure why you think that, but it's funny. I think of it as such a classic, sophisticated name. It was so popular in the 1920's and hasn't really made a comeback, but I feel it will always be in style.

@Mrs. DG: I love Addie! We would definitely nickname her that.

Where's the option for "Love them both!"?

I love old-fashioned names. I was my BIL's only supporter on the "Florence" bandwagon for my niece. (After his grandma.) But they ended up going with one of those modern made-up names instead. Boo. :(

    @Mrs. DG:  ;)

@miss-spunkin:  Well, since my baby girl is Adelaide (aka Addie), I guess that seals my vote.  :)  But really, I like Gemma quite a bit, too.  i think either name is beautiful.

My co-worker had an Adelaide last spring!  I found it to be quite a big name on a little baby, but since you're only a baby for such a small fraction of your life, it's totally fine.  They call her Addy at times, but most people call her Adelaide.

I think it's so feminine and beautiful.

Gemma is cute, but it seems more like a younger person's name.  There are a ton of Emmas around (4 my son's  preschool class of 20 kids) and I would avoid it for that reason.

I voted for Adelaide, but Gemma is nice too.  It reminds me too much of the mom on "Sons of Anarchy" though, lol.

I really love both an equal amount! At first I was leaning toward Adelaide but I love Gemma more and more every second lol. Hard choice!

@Running Elley: Haha now you understand our position! Though, if we have a boy, I guess it won't be an issue at all lol Maybe we'll end up having two girls some day and we can use both! lol

@Elvis: Well, I'm not having twins so sorry there can't be a both option haha ;)

@MapleBecky: Yeah, I think Addie/Addy works well for younger years, but the name grows with her for sure. I wanted to be sure that if I chose a more uncommon name, I chose one that she'll be taken seriously with.

I don't like Emma because of it's popularity but I guess I always though Gemma sounded different enough that it woudln't be a big deal..

I like Adelaide. Gemma sounds like a nickname to me.

Also, this might be silly, but how is Gemma pronounced? I'm pretty sure it is jem-a (with a soft g) but I might also pronounce it like geh-ma with (with a hard g).

@miss-spunkin:That's what I was thinking lol….hopefully you have a boy so it's a more clear cut choice! I have TONS of girl names that I love equally so, even though I'd like to have a girl first, choosing a boy name would be so much easier (there aren't as many of those that I like haha).

I prefer Adelle. Adelaide just reminds me of that irritating girl from Guys and Dolls.

Gemma is pretty, if a bit different.

@Crabbabs: It is just like Gem-ma, gem like a jewel. Or I guess it does sound more like a j, the soft g, Jem-ma

@Running Elley: I have a gut feeling it's a girl, and I would love a girl first (obviously I'll be just as happy with a boy :):), but yes - there aer so many more girl names I love!

I love Adelaide, i think it is so romantic and classy.

    I don't like Gemma, only because I watch Son's of Anarchy and that's Clay's "Old Lady's" name.

Edit: What are your boys names?

@MissDareDevil: I hardly ever watch TV (we don't have cable or even basic TV) so honestly associating baby names with TV characters has never really been much of an issue :)

If we have a boy, we're naming him Asher Daniel Stephen. His middle names are after his father (my husband), and grandparents (our dads).

I also like Wesley, Emmett and Liam - but I think Asher is our favorite by far :)

I love Adelaide but knowing that you're going to name a future boy Asher made me vote Gemma because I don't like the idea of kids names starting with the same letter.

I like Gemma since there are a lot of Addy's out there these days. Even though it is a beautiful name too I always hated being 1 of 3 or 4 of my popular 80's name, in school. Love Asher too :)

@Michaela-Ann: So funny that you love cursive G's. I hate them! My last name starts with a G and I have always complained about it.

I like Adelaide (not just because of the capital G thing but that is a factor)!

Adelaide gets my vote!! I've never met anyone with that name in my neck of the woods.  Such a cute name and I love that you can call her Addy for short!

Adelaide = gorgeous!!!  Plus, you can shorten it to either Ada or Addie, and both are SO cute!

I love both, but voted for Gemma because if you have a son, you plan to name him Asher.  With two kids, having both their names start with the same letter might not be a big deal, but if you ever have a third child, then you have the dilemma of giving that child a non-A name and having that name possibly not seem to "fit" or giving them an A name, but maybe choosing a name you might not love as much because it starts with A.

Personally, I don't like the cutesty factor of all names starting with the same letter, but a lot of people do.  Kardashians, anyone?

EDIT:  I just thought of a possible drawback to Gemma.  I know of a little girl named Gemma (which might be why I like the name so much -- she's adorable), but people often confuse her name for Jenna.
