Anyone a fan of My Chem on here? I am an AVID fan and have been for many years. Just saw the message that they broke up and just in time for my birthday today. I’m completely heartbroken. I know it might sound lame to many, but this band did so much for me since my hardest times, and it’s hard to say that sometimes because I feel like the “MCR saved my life” phrase only became a trend because kids thought it was cool. I am going to miss them horribly. Anyone ever feel the same way about a favorite band or anything similar?
I am a big fan of Type O Negative and when Peter Steele died (the lead singer) I was really heartbroken about it. Just so… sad. And I wanted to go out and have a drink in his honor but nobody wanted to go with me, so I just went to drink alone (the only time I’ve ever done this.)
That was the biggest thing I can remember, but nearly all of the bands I love are broken up now, so I know how you feel. It’s not lame to be sad about it, when music can be such a huge part of your life. But just be greatful that they did as much as they did, and you’ll always have their music to turn to even if theyre not making new stuff anymore.
Plus, you never know if they may have a reunion or make some side project thats really similar.
@HappilyEverAfter54: Haha! I love My Chem oh so much. They’re one of a small handful of bands that I’ve clung onto over the years. 🙂 And that’s a pretty cool way to remember a high school reunion if you ask me!
@AllShookUp: That’s so sad! I understand how you feel as well. Especially growing up with or just so attached to a band and you really feel like they are such good personal friends or even family to you, without knowing them in real life. I totally would have joined you in mourning, I know that probably no one would join me neither if I were in your position. And this is true, I really thought one more album and then they would be done. They’re all grown up now and 3/4 of the band has children, all of them are married. It’s just so sudden, it’s like an actual relationship ended! Haha. I just heard they were preparing for a new album soon but I’m willing to bet they are just too busy being family guys now and I’m happy they feel very complete with how, where, and when they ended.
@Elrodien: I’ve clung to AFI for dear life for years so I understand completely. Oh yeah I’m Not Okay is such a reminder of HS… the video is spot on! lol Plus Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge came out the week we got out of school so it’ll always be a reminder of the end of that chapter of life.
@HappilyEverAfter54: Omg Three Cheers is THE best if you ask me! Haha and by the way, where is AFI nowadays?? I love that band but haven’t been following them for a couple years, maybe even not since Wnter Underground was released!
@Elrodien: well they are still together but no word on any new music… I loved Blaqk Audio too because I am really into electronic dance music. I hope Davey Havok (my other husband) keeps making music with both groups. I had heard BA released a new cd at the end of 2012 but I haven’t gotten a chance to pick it up yet because of a long winter of being sick and a whole bunch of life changes, new jobs, moving ect. lol
I had a weird moment listening to them in the car the other day…was rocking out to their song Teenagers, and suddenly realized ‘Crap, I actually WAS a teenager when this song came out. And now I’m in my mid-20s. When the hell did that happen?’ And I’m also with @HappilyEverAfter54: on I’m Not Okay, I love that song. And am totally going to have it stuck in my head now.
MCR helped me with a lot of hard times too…although my obsessive, I’d still be crushed if they broke up band is Good Charlotte. Yes, contrary to popular belief, they DO still make music, they’ve had like three albums out since most people stopped listening to them, haha. I’ve seen them in concert at least 6 times and met them a couple of times too. On hiatus at the moment due to families and other business, but they’ve discussed doing a new record this year, fingers crossed!
@HappilyEverAfter54: Wow, I was wondering if they were in hiatus because I never hear about them anymore! I need to get back to listening to them again.
@Wonderstruck: Omg yes!!! I love GC!! Lol and are they really still together? My brother sent me an article a few months back that said how they aren’t GC another but Benji and Joel have their own…hip-hoppy project thing. But if they come out with a new album I will be so excited!! So many people hate them but whatevs. 😀
@jenangeles: I can’t believe it either. You mean, you personally worked with them?? Because that would be a dream. I never got to meet them and it has been on my bucket list ever since I heard them. I’ve seen them live 2 1/2 times (the half is part of their 2005 warped tour set). I was supposed to see them a third time, but FI and I drove to the city and realized we forgot the tickets!! And Chicago rush hour isn’t anything to play with.
@Elrodien: yeah, this was way back in the day when they first started the band.. I’d get stuck selling merch bc no one else wanted to do it. 🙂 I also had a short lived gig as gerard’s “costume designer” which wasn’t as fun as it might sound since his nickname at the time was stinky and I’d get to duct tape him into his ripped jeans since he was too poor to buy new ones.
@jenangeles: Lmao! That’s so funny. In their Life on the Murder Scene DVD they said the Way brothers are two very….very smelly dudes.
@Nurse_Bee: Yeh there was a quote by Frank that they had like 6 songs completed and their next album would be dubbed “MCR5″…either they totally scrapped it or maybe will release it as the last shabang, or release it at a later time. Oiiii 🙁
I cried. I’m just glad they ended on such a high note and that they are comfortable being done. Sad that it seems Gerard seems to have went back to his demons for a moment (if nobody knows, he has been sober from alcoholism and some drug abuse for years).
I LOVE MCR!!! This makes me sad too. I think I hoped that I would still someday see them in concert.
They came to Penn State my freshman year. I bought me and my boyfriend at the time tickets. I got ALL dressed up (in my cutest punk outfit no less) for the concert. We were out to dinner before and the waitress came up to our table and said “I know you were on your way to the concert (did my black eyeliner and nail polish and the 50 jellyband bracelets on my wrists give it away? As well as my jean mini skirt and black etnies????) and I just wanted to let you know that they have had to cancel it.” I swear I almost cried right there in the restaurant. Turns out they got food poisoning from their previous gig the day or two before 🙁
Still not over it. Obviously.
