I just had Classico Florentine spinach and asiago sauce for the first time tonight and it was SOOOOOO GOOOOOD. If you didn't see my earlier post about it, I'm only getting Classico because they use mason jars and I'm saving them for centerpieces. Usually, Fi makes a giant batch (his family's Italian) and we don't use jarred stuff.
What is your favorite commercial spaghetti sauce? I feel like there's a whole other world out there!
I grew up on Ragu, just the plain old spaghetti sauce. Then when I moved out I tried a few other brands, and I LOVE Target's generic Market Pantry brand! Most sauces you can't go generic, but it's definitely my favorite :) I use Ragu for Alfredo sauce though.
Your making me hungry! lol I like Paul Newmans. But I like to try all kinds, from the cheap stuff to the expensive.
I like any thing with galic in it :)
I've enjoyed the obscure brands in the isle, as well as the trusty name brands mentioned above- typically whatever is buy one get one free :) LOL
Fortunately Francisco Rinaldi is one of the cheaper brands because it's my favorite!
@Eva Peron: Me too! I usually sautee a little garlic with whatever meat first, then add the sauce.
Victoria's Vodka Sauce. Delish! I am straight up Italian so actual tomato sauce is made from scratch for me. The jarred ones make me gag. Haha.
Classico, Francisco Rinaldi and some organic brand that I can't remember the name of. I grew up eating Ragu but I can barely deal with it now.
PREGO!!!!! Its amazingness!!! :) FI won't let me buy anything else!!
@sbharkness83: I thought about trying that because they use mason jars too! Now I'm definitely going to!
I was surprised to find out that Hunts canned Traditonal spaghetti sauce is actually REALLY good. I never would have bought canned myself, but my roommate did and it was one of the best store-bought sauces I've ever had.
I usually buy the cheap kind and fix it up with some garlic salt, Italian bread crumbs, and other seasonings--DH doesn't like the thick stuff so it works :)
@jjmomma: Any particular PN sauce, or are they all good?
Ragu cooked with meat! We always had it growing up. Though my fav is when my dad cans his home-grown, oven roasted tomato sauce. It is heavenly. I really dislike prego for some reason. Oh and one must alway, always add cream of mushroom soup to spaghetti sauce. Otherwise it is a watery mess. :)
We're Ragu and Prego people too. Mostly because it's cheap but not so cheap that it's gross. I generally add in some extra seasoning anyway.
I like the Bertolli 3 cheese, it's cheap and tasty.
Paul Sorvino (yes the actor) used to have an amazing marinara sauce that I can't find anymore :(
I like the bertoli vodka sauce. I've tried other ones, and this has been my favorite so far. I also like the classico alfredo sauces.
I have to agree that the hunts was much better than i expected it to be. I think I stumbled on that because someone gave me a recipe reccomending to use a can of that.
i love the classico spicy red pepper sauce. it's so cheap, and it's my favorite jarred red sauce i've had so far :)
i'd REALLY like to find a good jarred vodka sauce, but i haven't had any luck with that yet. any sugguestions?
Any kind of Classico, it tastes the most authentic to me.
If DH buys another brand, I usually add to it, like garlic, oregano, basic and red pepper.
When i used to buy premade pasta sauce, we always bought Preggo with mushrooms. One time my husband bought Ragu but I didnt like it as much. These days though I just make my own
I dont remember the exact brand... I know the jar when I see it... Its a square Jar
Its Spicy Marinara! I LVOE LVOE it! : )
Paul Newman's. Dang, now I'm hungry lol
For spaghetti sause, I always get some flavor of Prego. Yum!
For other sauses (vodka, alfredo, etc), I get Bertolli.
@waffle: I second the Newman's Own Sockarooni - amaaazing!
My fave is Ragu's Tomato, Garlic & Onion. All other brands and flavors are just too acidic for our tastes. We're more of a sweet sauce fan. But we do tend to make our own pasta sauce (old family recipe from a friend's Italian grandmother that we altered to our own tastes!)
I've been craving Italian for weeks and am so happy we're making sauce on Sunday!
But I just wanted to say I think it's a brillant idea to use these jars!
Rao's is the best I've ever had jarred. It's like $8 a jar, but is worth it - SO good!
@houstonlawbride: We buy the Rao's brand, too. I like the arrabbiata and the vodka sauce.
I always use Bertolli Olive Oil & Garlic sauce. As far as jars go, it's pretty good. I want to start making my own sauce tho :)
