longtimemrs:  I do the same colors as I do when have long nails.  For me personally I do for the color not the length of nails.

I always prefer dark colours on short nails.

longtimemrs:  I love dark colors! I think I just love them on any type of nail in the fall, though, lol.

I think dark polish would look good, but not if you fingers are particularly short. Then it might make them look even shorter rather than elongated.

I don’t really do “long” nails (or acrylics), but if my nails are shorter than my fingers (does that make sense? lol) I prefer darker polish- my go to is a dark burgundy or dark purple. If it’s summer, I like nice corals or peachy colours. I also LOVE “Lapis of Luxury” by Essie, and I’m not usually into blue-ish shades.

When my nails are a little longer, I usually just slap on some Nail Glow- I’m not a fan of polish on longer nails, honestly.

I’m LOVING “Up the Ante” by Revlon. It’s a purpley color, but not the average purple, it’s a beautiful purple, sort of like plummy. The swatches online don’t do it justice honestly. Ok wow I’ll stop blabbering about it now haha! I have it on my short nails now 😀

For me personally, when my nails are short I LOVE a good red polish! I can’t pull red off with long nails. I also love dark-almost black- colors.

I would say generally I prefer darker ones, but for me it has more to do with the color than the length of my nails. So rock whatever colors you want 🙂 currently I am wearing a light green, probably almost spring like, but it is my way of living in denial about the snow and the freezing cold temps!

longtimemrs:  My nails are usually unfashionably long and painted either really dark (think Lincoln Park after Dark) or a nude color.  Last week I made the mistake of soaking off gel polish by dangling my fingertips in a bowl of acetone for 30 minutes (instead of putting acetone-soaked cotton on the nail itself) (or using the special wraps, but I’m too cheap to ever use those). Within 2 days, 6 nails broke off! So like you, I filed the rest down and am starting over. I like darker colors on short nails and will probably do Vixen tonight, which is Revlon’s version of Chanel’s Vamp — anyone remember that from the 90’s? I never gave it up! If you want your nails to look a little longer while growing out, try filing into an almond shape – very pretty. Also, learn from my lesson — “soak-off polish” means soak the polish, not your whole nail!

I will go against the grain and say that I prefer (on me) clear, nude, light pink, or clearish sparkly/glittery polish when my nails dont extend past my fingertips! When they do, I prefer bright or darker colors but never nudes/clear (again, just talking about on myself!). I dont know why. I guess I am in the minority!!!

I wear the same colors no matter what too (I even disregard color changing for seasons, I’m quite the heathen!). Haha, but if I were to guess which color works BEST for short nails, I would assume nude. It works for making legs look longer so why not fingers/nails too?
