I had bought a bed frame secondhand when DH and I got married and it broke after only a few months. Since, we haven't had a bedframe and have had our mattresses on the floor. I hate it because it makes the room look off, and it's not a calming, peaceful setting at all.

I found a few bed frames I like on West Elm (looking for something less than $400), like this one for $300: http://www.westelm.com/products/simple-low-bed-frame-g544/?pkey=cmodern-bed-frames

I don't care about a headboard at this point because I think I will make my own (like THIS or THIS)

    Any ideas? Thanks bees!

Personally I would be hesitant to purchase furniture online.  Not saying that it would definitely be bad but I'd like to see how well the furniture is constructed before I buy it.  As we all know, something will look great online and not look as good in reality.  It would be impossible to tell if a bed is well made without bouncing on it, actually looking at how it's made etc.  I'd rather go to a brick and mortar store for furniture.  Or at least check it out in the store first, before ordering it online.

We purchased our bedroom and dining room furniture from a excellent quality non chain store in our area. However, we are looking at buying a new kitchen table from Crate and Barrel. Its not the best quality but is good. I also bought our sofa from urban barn and i was quite happy with the quality of that piece. What I loved about the manufacturer we went with is we could customize all the details to get exactly what we wanted!

If all you want is a frame like that, you could just build it.  It'd probably be 50-75 in material including stain or paint.  Check out http://ana-white.com/2010/01/plans-how-to-modify-farmhouse-bed-to_09.html and her other bed designs.  The frame is very simple and you can modify it slightly to look exactly like what you have pictured.

West Elm is a great vendor. I have had good luck shopping at American Tv, appliances and furniture as well if you have those in your area.

I don't know where you are in the midwest, but if you are anywhere Omaha or KC, Nebraska Furniture Mart has a HUGE selection in your price range.  It is the only place that we shop at for new furniture, appliances, electronics, carpet, they pretty much carry everything and have very fair pricing.

We have a $50 metal frame that the matress sits on.  With a bedskirt, you can't see it at all.  I also built a headboard myself and hubs hung it on the wall!

@pinkshoes: that's what my husband said when I showed him this frame! So we'll see, we might end up making it.

But I am always looking to expand my furniture horizons too - I love pinning stuff from various places online. I'm sure I'll be so thankful I did when we get our own house!

We just have a plain metal frame and a bedskirt. It was very convenient when we moved to our own house. However, I'm looking for a bed. If you buy any furniture online, make sure to google search for reviews of reliabilty and customer service!

My bed is from Ethan Allen, I bought it 8 years ago and it's still holding up. If I were to buy a new bed frame today though, I would definitely go to somewhere a little more my style like West Elm or Mitchel Gold or even Crate and Barrel (assuming they were having a sale).

I got my last bed at Ikea, but before I bought it, I went to the showroom and tested out the strength of the frames. I would grab the headboard and shake as hard as I could to make sure it did not move or sway at all.  if the bed swayed around, I would not consider it.
