So, DH's squadron is having a going away party for his flight chief on Friday and the wives are making food to bring. Normally, I'd bring a dessert but I have no cooking stuff! Literally, I have: 1 small frying pan, 1 small pot, 1 pasta pot, 1 knife, 1 spatula. That's it until our household goods get here in a couple weeks.

I feel obligated to bring something, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on something simple but awesome I can take with me. I suck at googling recipes and I would rather get first-hand recommendations anyway. There will probably be around 20 people there.

How fancy is it?  What about a pasta salad or a quinoa salad?

Cook up the pasta, mix in veggies, cheese and salad dressing of your choice.  Easy peasy.

You could make a layered taco dip, or maybe swedish meatballs.

Ooooh girl... you have to try heart attack dip!  It's sooooo good!

Take pre-cooked breakfast sausage patties (1 pack), heat them up in the microwave and crumble them pretty fine.  Add to 2 blocks of cream cheese (softened) and 1 can of Ro-tel.  Serve with tortilla chips.

Sounds gross, but it's really yummy and easy.  You can top it with chopped scallions for more color, but it's fine as-is.

These sounds good so far, anyone else have any ideas?

http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1715,132180-255196,00.html Sounds like you have all the tools you need to make buffalo chicken wing dip. It is always requested I bring this dip to gatherings. The only other thing you'll need is something to bake it in...just pick up one of those cheap disposable pie tins to bake it in and you'll be all set.

    I love a good dip!

Layers of creamcheese, sour cream, cheddar cheese, salsa, lettuce, sprinkle some green onion on the top and viola.

All you need is a serving plate and you are done!

Ina Garten's Roasted Shrimp and Orzo is my go-to dish for potlucks and showers, and it's always a huge hit!  All you have to do is boil the pasta, cook the shrimp (she says to roast it in the oven but I usually just cook it in a saute pan), chop up the herbs, and toss it together.  The shrimp makes it a little pricy, but I have also made it with diced chicken breast or shredded rotisserie chicken.

    various kebabs?

basil leaf, mozzerella ball and cherry tomato

pepperoni/salami chunk, roasted red pepper, artichoke heart

    olive, cucumber, pepperoncini

or an apple, walnut chicken salad served in tostito scoops? (assemble there)

Becareful of warm dishes because you may not be able to or have a long line to heat it up there if you dont have your own warming plate, and then keeping it warm is a problem.

@zippylef: Seriously the easiest thing to make. You melt the cream cheese, add the rest of the ingredients, put it in the dish and bake just until the cheese is melted. If you know that there is going to be an oven where you are I'd bake it there, that's what I usually do. DH begs me for this and the last time we were going to someone's house the wife requested it. I've never had any left to take home. Sooooooooo delicious.

Pasta Salad or just a regular salad with fancy dressing. Keep it simple.

@zippylef: @sailor: It is soooooooo good. It's actually really easy to reduce calories too. I use fat free cream cheese and low fat bleu cheese (if I can find it) and low fat shredded cheese, 2% I think it usually is. Nobody ever knows that it's reduced calorie and I never tell them.  I usually chop up the canned chicken into smaller pieces and I try to bake it at my destination rather than at home. We bring a variety of stuff to dip into it, celery, tortilla chips, triscuits and/or wheat thins. It is so easy I usually make 2 so I can have one at home.

    Snickers Salad

    3 snickers bars, chopped

3 apples, chopped (2 granny smith, 1 fuji or gala)

    1 tub cool whip, defrosted

1 small box of instant vanilla pudding

Make pudding according to box directions, combine all ingredients.

It looks like a pasta salad or something and everyone is always like "what is this?" But, once they try it, they rave!  It's delicious!

i love sweet and sour meatballs. I get frozen meatballs (the smaller ones). A small jar of grape jelly and a jar of chili sauce. (I think both are about 12 ounces). Mix the grape jelly and the chili sauce together really well then pour it over the meatballs in a crockpot.

Unfortunately, swedish meatballs and some of the others are out because they seem like they would require a crock-pot, which we own but is currently on a ship in the middle of the ocean.

I think I'm definitely making that buffalo chicken dip.

I can't decide if this sounds like it would be AMAZING or not. What do you guys think? It's a peanut butter "cheese ball".

    http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2011/08/peanut-butter-cheese-ball.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FofLCo+%28The+Girl+Who+Ate+Everything%29

Or, maybe something like this?  http://willowbirdbaking.wordpress.com/2011/03/20/three-safe-to-eat-cookie-doughs-chocolate-chip-sugar-and-cake-batter/

    I can't decide....
