Since fall kicks off the holiday season, what are your favorite foods and drinks that you wait until this time of year to enjoy? Or those that you automatically associate with the holidays?
I love anything pumpkin (bread, cake, ice cream even) and I love anything apple too. Oh and I absolutely love Thanksgiving food so I can't wait for the day when I get to stuff my face with it.
I love the pumpkin cream cheese muffins at Starbucks. sooo good.
Apple cider doughnuts, apple cider, pumpkin ale (it's actually good, I swear), Sam Adam's Octoberfest beer....
Don't know if anyone else has heard of Coco's Harvest Pie, but it's pumpkin pie with a layer of pumpkin chiffon on top. I've been waiting all year for fall to come around so I can try out the recipe at home!!
I love chili and pumpkin flavored everything. Too bad my hubby can't eat chili and doesn't like pumpkin :(
I love fall!
Caramel apple cider (I know it's available year round but it's not something I want to drink in the summer)!
Pumpkin roll (pumpkin cake and cream cheese filling)
My famous Deer Beer Chili
Apple Cider Cake
And I will once again break out my bread machine for homemade bread! My DH's favorite? Cinnamon Swirl bread.
"Soupies"
pumkin spice latte from starbucks :) yummm and closer to christmas, its then replaced with eggnog, or the peppermint hot chocolate :)
I always associate chocolate pie with Christmas and Thanksgiving because it's the only time of year I eat it! So when it starts getting cold, I really look forward to that! I also really look forward to Starbucks' signature hot chocolate. YUM!
Homemade Hot Buttered Rum! How do you make ice cream even better? Add a bunch of butter and brown sugar to it. How do you make rum even better? Microwave it, then toss in the ice cream/butter/brown sugar mess. Mmmm . . . . (If you're not feeling rum-y for some strange reason, the ice cream goop is also great in coffee.)
@WeeBirdy: YUM! Even with the word "goop" in it, your post made my mouth water! :) haha
Anything pumpkin. Once the weather gets cooler I run out for pumpkin and make pumpkin pancakes. I also LOVE Starbucks' pumpkin scone!
My SO's mom makes an absolutely delicious Swedish Tea Log that I wait all year to have...I can't wait to visit!
@aberry, ha ha, yes, it's goopy deliciousness! I forgot it also has powdered sugar and cinnamon. Because ice cream isn't quite sweet and fatty enough without two types of extra sugar and a pound of butter!
And I second all the pumpkin posts :)
oh man, i go crazytown for fall/seasonal foods!
- roasted & spiced pumpkin seeds
- cranberry cardamom bread
- chai tea & apple cider
- hot chocolate with baileys or peppermind schnapps
- pumpkin/butternut squash soup
- oktoberfest beer
and tomorrow is the first day of fall!! :D
- chili (especially on Sundays while watching football...Go Pats!)
- hot apple cider (starbucks is awesome, but dunkins has a new one I want to try)
- pumkin spice coffee/latte/bread/muffin...anything pumpkin related!
- apple crisp
Putting some chili-fixins in the crock pot now!! YUM!
I love all the apple and pumpkin foods that are associated with the fall.
I also love the opportunity to make foods I normally stop making over the summer, like meatloaf, chili, stuffed peppers, beef stew, homemade soups, etc.
@cardigan - Have you tried their Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate?
Amazing.
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Yikes, I wish you hadn't told me about that! I love anything salted caramel, this could be sooo dangerous !:)
Pumpkin pie and EGG NOG!!!!!! The egg nog has to be from Nielson though >.<
@pumpkinspicechai - Sorry! It really is delicious though! I too love salted caramel :-)
Toasted Pumpkin seeds
All the breads above sound amazing! Banana Nut, Pumpkin, Zucchini and Carrot,
Bratwurst and sauerkraut and a beer for octoberfest
Starbucks peppermint mocha
Peppermint cookies
Peppermint schnapps while skiing ;-)
Lots and lots of soups!
and for some reason i like ice cream better in the fall than in summer
butternut squash soup (so.darn.good.)
anything pumpkin (I made pumpkin cookies today! ^_^)
zucchini bread (like banana bread, but with zucchini. and chocolate).
haha I guess squash = autumn foods for me?
There are many, but I'm especially excited about pumpkin ales!
Anyone else love pumpkin chili in the fall?

Next time you go to a chili cookoff, seriously consider making this one - it's really yummy and different (which makes for more fun chili cookoffs, IMO)
ugh this post makes me sad. It is in the high 70s and 80s all this week and next and doesn't feel like Fall at all :( I guess it makes up for our exceptionally cold and gloomy summer...
Anyways, favorite fall foods:
Pumpkin Pie
Chai Tea Lattes (Even though I drink them cold in the summer :p)
Matzo Ball Soup (!)
Pumkin Pie, Apple Crisp, Caramel Apple Pie, Roasted Vegetables (especially potatoes and squash,) Apple Cider from our local orchards, Baked Apples. I don't eat meat but I love making chili, beef stew, and pot roast for my husband in the cooler weather. I always feel like cranberry juice in the fall but never any other time of year. I like to mix apple cider and cranberry juice and mulling spices and heat it on the stove. It makes the whole house smell amazing. My absolute favorite Fall food item is the Honeycrisp Apple. If these are available in your area you must try them. It will ruin other apples for you!
Fall tells me that Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday (more than Christmas), is near. Thanksgiving = TURDUCKEN with Jambalaya stuffing. So so good!
Made a wonderful cider punch for a Halloween party last week:
1 cup sugar
2 quarts apple cider or juice, divided
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 can (12 ounces) frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed (optional)
1 quart ginger ale, chilled
In a Dutch oven, combine the sugar, 1 cup cider, cinnamon and allspice. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat; add orange juice concentrate and remaining cider. Cool. Cover and refrigerate until chilled. Just before serving, add ginger ale.
Otherwise, for fall/winter, I love hot cocoa, baked mac and cheese, scallopped corn, homemade dressing, chai (love the mix from Trader Joe's), sweet potato casserole with struesel topping, turkey, pumpkin pie
