Definitely 30 Rock...the characters are hilarious...seriously, the funniest show I've seen in a long time! Try to start from Season 1...it is so worth it! I love watching it with my husband....and I know he thinks it's funny b/c he rarely laughs out loud, but there have been several episodes that had us rolling with laughter ![]()
Other shows we like to watch together - Fringe (I didn't think I'd like it, but it's pretty good!), Criminal Minds, and 24
My other favorites - Top Chef, Project Runway, and Jon&Kate Plus 8
Oh and our absolute favorite show that we just finished was The Wire (you'll have to get it on DVD)
I know I need to get into 30 Rock, but I'm so behind! Oh yes and I definitely follow Project Runway, and Top Chef if it happens to be on.
My FI and I watch Gossip Girl, House, and The Unit together. Still cracks me up that he was a fan of Gossip Girl before me. :-)
Definitely The Office, 30 Rock, and we are newly obsessed with How I Met Your Mother!
I second The Office and 30 Rock.... we're also really into Life on NBC. You might need to go back to season one to understand the storyline, but it's a great show.... I usually don't care for cop dramas, but it's got a lot of dry humor, not too much violence, and it's really well written. Mr. Cupcake hates any show that leaves cliff-hangers (like Lost, which I love) so Life is good b/c it wraps up a mystery every week, but also continues an on-going mystery. We both win!!!
We LOVE How I Met Your Mother...it is pretty much the only show we watch together although hubby sometimes watches 30 Rock!
We love the Office. I'm a huge travel channel fan and adore No Reservations with Tony Bourdain and Passport to Great Weekends with Samantha Brown. On Animal Planet, we're recent addicts to "Whale Wars"..
Ok I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking it but I'll be the first to say it: The Hills, The City and Bromance. In my defense, I got sucked in!!! Mr Breezy is the one who watched the Hills (he loves crap tv) and I would sit beside him and make fun of him/it but then by accident actually got interested in the drama. It's a guilty pleasure if there ever was one.
I love 24, Prison Break, ER (last season), Gray Ani. and The Pratice. wow thats a lot. lol
My husband doesn't really like tv at all, but the three shows I've gotten him to watch with me are Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and House - too bad House will be on at the same time as the other two when they start back with new episodes. :-(
We watch The Office, and recently we've been watching Friends DVDs and reliving the first few seasons. :) Also, I somehow managed to get him hooked on Greys Anatomy (amazing, right?)!
Together the hubs and I watch Battlestar Gallactica (which is about to start it's final season), and Law and Order.
On my own I watch CSI, Ugly Betty, Bridezillas, Dog Whisperer, and NCIS.
Together we watch Survivor (it just ended a few weeks ago, so now waiting for the next one), CSI, ER, Top Chef, Joh & Kate plus 8, different stuff on Food Network.
If nothing else is on we are also guilty of watching junk TV like The Hills, The City, Charm School, Rock of Love, and other reality stuff like that.
I like to watch and he'll humor me and watch it: One Tree Hill, different wedding shows (can't stop watching them).
We Tivo our shows and then watch them during dinner. Our favorite contenders are:
I love The Closer, and although DH had never watched it before, he is getting into it too. We also love Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, which is great travel and food porn. Watching it before dinner can be really hazardous. I'm excited to have just gotten one of his books for Christmas as well. We DVR House, Survivor, Amazing Race... If you like music, Crossroads is a great series that brings performers from different genres (Taylor Swift and Def Leppard, for instance) together for an hour of music. We also like Dexter, Weeds, and just recently TruBlood (great job of adapting from the books so far!)
That's funny because one of my resolutions is to watch LESS tv! :)
My fave shows though that I can't miss are:
Mondays: *How I Met Your Mother (they just signed on for an additional year to their 7 years, so 8 years! they're only on #4 right now, yay!)
*Big Bang Theory (Incredibly nerdy humor that my husband and I looove, he's an electrical engineer, so he gets it more than i do)
Tuesday:
*NCIS
Wednesday - when the series is on:
*Top Chef*Project Runway
Thursday:
*The Office
*CSI - the original one!
Friday:*Numb3rs
Usually watch on Hulu.com
*Monk
*Psych
*Chuck
Junk shows we're guilty of watching every now and then:
Rock of Love: Tour Bus, The Hills, The City, Bromance, Tool Academy (watched the first episode today, hiiilarious in a really sad sort of way!)
We are behind the times and we just started getting all the seasons of Sopranos from Netflix!! We LOVE that show. We are almost done with season 1 there at 8 SEASONS!!! So that takes up alot of our time. The shows on TV now that we never miss are Top Chef and Iron Chef America. We are complete reality TV nuts so I watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 and Little People Big World. If the Mr. is not on the computer or reading he watches them with me as well!!
I'll admit it, Mr Tulip and I love watching TV together. We usually play on our laptops while we watch, but it gives us a shared point of focus rather than just doing our own thing on the web....
Often we miss a show and end up catching up via Hulu or Netflix. As for Hulu choices, we're definitely fans of 30 Rock and The Office, plus we watched all of Arrested Development on Hulu. It also has Fringe, which I haven't gotten Mr T to follow yet, but I rather enjoy.
The shows that we started on Netflix and liked enough to follow "in real time" = Lost, Heroes, 24, Dexter. Also Veronica Mars, which died too young but it completely worth it on DVD.
Shows we started on Netflix too late to start the 2nd seasons in real time, and now are waiting desperately on the new season's DVDs: Mad Men and Burn Notice.
Our newest discovery is Weeds, and I'm totally addicted to the dark humor. Not exactly a "family values" show, but if you like Dexter and Family Guy you should be fine. ;)
Edited to add: I can't believe I forgot Pushing Daisies!!! Fought it for the longest time because I was afraid it would be "quirky" in an annoyingly forced way... But it's genuinely the most charming show I've ever seen (and again with enough moments of dark humor to keep it from being cloying).
AFter college I had stopped watching TV because my hours were so crazy, I couldn't folow anything. Then came DVRs!! My husband and I watch most of the same stuff, so at least when we are home watching TV, we are together. Here are my must-haves:
Dexter (fall on Showtime, three seasons in)
Lost
30 Rock
The Office
My Name is Earl
Biggest Loser (only possible with a DVR though, the amount of commercials and fluff is extreme and painful live)
So You Think You Can Dance (summers)
Rules of Engagement (unclear if it is coming back, if so will be in March)
House (on Fox)
House, No Reservations, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and sometimes he even watches What Not to Wear or CSI with me.
We love How I Met Your Mother and Lost. We also rent old TV shows on Netflix and have loved Veronica Mars and Firefly this way. Oh Firefly, why did they cancel you so soon?!
together we watch:
I watch almost ALL those shows people suggested (I'm such a couch potato!) but all I gotta say is:
30 ROCK 30 ROCK 30 ROCK!! TINA FEY IS MY HERO!!!! =)
i think i'm gonna have to start my netflix subscription again. there are so many shows i want to watch, but i'm so behind that i want to catch up first (lost, dexter, weeds, 30 Rock, Prison Break...)
thank goodness 24 and damages in on hulu! seriously you guys -- damages was so underrated but very critically acclaimed. it's an awesome show.
First, hilarious that you guys are going to watch more TV together! I only say that because my FI and I are total TV junkies, and he is constantly saying that he wants to watch less TV and read more (but honestly, I love TV and my DVR, so our current situation is perfectly fine with me!).
Anyway, I love nearly all HBO series--we usually just rent them on DVD to watch all at once. If you have never seen The Sopranos, that one was good, and so is Entourage for something light. A MUST SEE is THE WIRE. I saw someone already suggested this, but I just wanted to put it out there once more. We just finished all five seasons (that's all there is), and I think it might be one of my favorite shows of all time. It's not exactly uplifting, but it's so well written, fascinating, and the actors really grab you--even the drug dealers and junkies (it follows the drug gangs / homicide &narcotics police / dock workers / schools / politicians of Baltimore). You must see The Wire! I suggest using subtitles at first, so that you start to learn the lingo.
Anyway, another surprising one that both me and my FI (and my sister and her husband) enjoy watching is Project Runway. Because it focuses more on design, trends, fabrics, and construction (rather than pure drama), guys tend to like it too, even though it's about fashion.
Have fun!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to watch more tv with mr. bee, because we don't watch any tv together at all.
I pretty much follow whatever is on hulu because I can watch it whenever - house, monk, psych, hell's kitchen, it's always sunny in philadelphia, family guy, simpsons...
i'm excited for 24, damages, how i met your mother (just borrowed season 2 from miss martini, and just bought season 3!)... also need to catch up on season 2-3 of dexter!
i've never used our dvr, but think it's about time to get started, so what are some of your favorite tv shows? ones i can watch by myself (aka trashy reality), and ones you enjoy watching with your husband?
