We are keeping an extremley small budget, but we really want to do a favor for the guests. We are thinking of doing one dollar lotto tickets per person. We would get a nice envelope for them and put a sticker that says lucky in love or something of the sort on it. Do you think this is a good idea? It would be relatively cheap. But my fiance thinks that we should do something else as well, like a mini bottle of wine that they we could get on sale for a dollar. BUT that would make our budget go up. If we do just the lotto ticket, it would be $150 but if we added the wine it would make it $300. What do you guys think? Is the lotto ticket enough or should we add the wine?

The wedding co-ordinator at my venue said that her staff throws away about 80% of what people ask them to hand out or set up as favors, and that it really doesn’t matter what the favor is— they all end up in the trash. I had already had big doubts about bothering with favors and her comments sealed it for me. I’d just keep that favor money in the “emergency expense slush fund” and go without.

I would do just the lotto ticket. I don’t know anyone who would throw away a lotto ticket!
I would skip the bottle of wine though. I can’t imagine it would be too drinkable at $1.00 per bottle??

I would just do the lotto tickets!

Of the choices, I’d do a lotto ticket. Maybe make a game that everyone scratches it off at the same time to see who the winners are – also to ensure they won’t be thrown out!

I love the lotto ticket idea- just make sure it’s glaringly obvious what the favor is inside the envelope. Maybe even have the DJ mention it. But honestly, that’s one of the best favor ideas I’ve heard in a long time.

Lotto ticket is really cute – who would want to throw away the chance of being a millionaire?!! 😉 Please skip the wine idea though – cheap wine is not very tasty. :-

even if yourt guests leave the lotto ticket you could always scratch them your self and see if anything comes of it. Depending on the wedding they might be out of place though, I don’t know if you have a church oriented or culturally orientated anti-gambeling crowd but that should be something to consider for sure.

I agree with PP in just doing the lotto ticket. I can tell you that as a guest, I would definitely scratch the ticket, but would probably just throw away the wine. (Usually, it’s pretty obvious that you bought it for a dollar: taste, plastic bottle, screw top.)
When you first started talking about the lotto ticket, the translucent envelope came into my head. How cute! Much better than the wine imo…

Lotto tickets! It’s a fun favor that people don’t have to take home – I am not really a fan of favors in general, because they are just something I feel obligated to keep but don’t really need. But with a lotto ticket, guests can have the tiny thrill of scatching it off at the reception, and if they didn’t win, they can throw it away then and there!

Love the lotto ticket idea I may borrow it! I don’t think anyone would not like to scratch off a lotto ticket and not everyone would like wine and also I agree with the above person who said it may not be that drinkable at $1/bottle. Plus I think it’d be cool if someone won some bucks!

Love the lotto ticket idea.

I think the lotto ticket is a really cute idea! If I have the $$ in the budget near the wedding (which seems highly unlikely lol) I may just have to steal this idea!! 🙂
