hi – i really don’t want to give people a tchotchke that will get thrown out, nor do I want to slave over the stove days before my wedding baking, and I do not want to spend a lot of $ on anything else…If I make a donation (which i think is nice), do I need a separate card printed out for everyone to announce it, or is it a faux pas to put “in lieu of favors…” at the bottom of our printed menus. OR, has anyone just decided to not do anything? I can’t remember most favors I have received. We are doing OOT bags too. thanks.

We’re doing a donantion to the American Brain Tumor Associate in honor of my father who died of a brain tumor. I had donation cards made up and they will be part of our centerpieces.

Put hand up! Me!
I have a tight budget and would prefer to put the money elsewhere! You can never make everyone happy with favours and no one misses them when they aren’t though.
So they got nixed within the first month of planning!

The closest thing I’ve got to favors are personalized match boxes in our colors and with our monogram that I’m ordering for each guest so they can light the sparklers for our exit. It’s not very expensive and it’s specifically being ordered so that people can use them for our wedding so I’m not sure if it counts as a favor.

No favors for us, my fiance’s opinion was that we are “not a child’s birthday party.” While I don’t think favors are always ridiculous, I just don’t want to spent the time, money, and I don’t think people will feel they missed out. I also feel the same on out of town bags-I’m inviting folks to my wedding, not hosting them for the weekend.

im not doing them at all 🙂
they were the first thing that we cut when we noticed we were going slightly over budget.
there is nothing that can be disguised as a favor..there will be NOTHING.
we figure that if someone complains that the awesome food, free booze, and live band isn’t enough, well, i’ll give them $2 to go by a trinket at the dollar store

LOL @blondeebuckeye – I have been thinking the same thing!

This is great to hear! I just figured it was expected for us to provide some sort of favor. Maybe I will have to rethink what I’m going to do. It would be nice to use that extra money for nicer centerpieces or something.

- Wedding: June 2010 - New York Botanical Garden
We did a donation and printed the info in the program – no extra work for us, and many people actually did see it!
