We didn't serve anything super special at our reception, but the day after we had an open house at my parents' cabin. There we served several family recipes.
I love this idea. I hope we will be able to incorporate something that we both love.
Though this could be a bad idea - there was a commercial recently with a wedding "cake" made of Chicken Nuggies - Fi's eyes lit up.
Yes I love chicken nuggets (particularly if I have had one too many glasses of wine the night before!)
Food was my families first priority! We had a ball selecting the menu and fortunately our venue was beyond flexible. We served mini hamburger, milk shakes and onion rings at the cocktail hour along with a tennessee bbq as a shout out to our various travels during our engagement. We served italian biscotti with dessert and pulled out all the stops at dinner to serve chilean sea bass. It was a menu pulled directly from our passports! I loved every bite.
Well... since he's from the south & I'm from the west coast we've found a restaurant that serves "West Coast Cuisine w/ a Southern Twist"! Sums us up perfectly.
Food was our top priority as well... it's taking up more than 1/2 our budget. Our menu will have tons of ocean options & a bunch of southern options. Everyone who eats here falls in love... So I know my guests won't be disappointed. There's a little something for everyone! :)
My favorite food is ice cream--so we're having an ice cream sundae bar. My fiance's favorite food is cheese--so we're doing a cheese display alongside the hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour. We're really excited about both!
We're still working on it -- and with the wedding so close it looks like it's not going to happen. I spoke with the caterer about making BBQ seitan and he didn't know what seitan is, but he asked me to spell it and said he'll look it up and said he can cook anything. We'll see ...
My husband's favorite food is peanut butter, so we honored that with a peanut butter grooms cake (with chocolate drizzle of course). Our favorite food is green and red chile, but since its a NM thing, the caterer and Florida gave us a crazy look when we mentioned, so just standard issue food there.
Definitely!
The FI's father's food horizon....is not very broad. Pretty much strictly Steak & Potatos and pasta kind of guy. It's odd because I think non-Chinese people can't get full off of Chinese food yet my mom can't get full off of American food. ahahah. So the first thing we asked for in our menu from the caterer we are looking at is a fusion menu. The caterer we are looking at came up with a great suggestion of doing food stations, so it's semi-buffet but there is a server and it's not completely sit down either. Which I like because I'm not too keen on all buffet style. But neither are we for all sit down. So either which way we're going to do a American/Grill station, a asian station, and a local Hudson Valley flavor station. The FI & I get to have more fun with menu choices with the butlered hor'devours during the cocktail hour, w/1 or 2 safeties of course.
We're also doing a ice cream station at the end to go with the cake for all the kids (young & old alike). And we're going to have jello molds! Ahahah. My niece & nephews LOVE jello so those are not coming out till cake time or they will eat nothing else all day!
Hm. What else. Oh, our signature cocktail of the day will be Sangrias, we're going to request the specific brand that we like. And that will tie in nicely into our vineyard wedding theme. And we're making a home brew together as our party favor/seating cards because the FI loves microbrews and I'm starting to as well!
My fav food is mac and cheese so we're having that for sure! FI loves meatloaf, so we'll have mini meatloaves wrapped in bacon. We're serving everything family-style so it will be just like being home for dinner!
Also, ice cream is my weakness, so we're having an ice cream truck arrive just as the ceremony is getting out, and people can have ice cream cones. This will be dependent on the weather of course (wedding's in October). Newport Creamery is a local ice cream place, so we're using them.
I wish we could! Our wedding place has a set choice of menus so we just picked which one sucked the least from that.
that being said, we chose italian for our rehearsal dinner. in fact, a place known for their chicken parm, my FI's absolute favorte thing in the whole world (besides me! ha). I like too many different kinds of foods to pinpoint one. But we also go out for dinner it seems to italian joints and whatnot, so it just worked for us. I guess we just aren't set on anything so particular that we felt we HAD to have it at our wedding. Not that they would have let us though. We ARE having the wines we like.
I'm from St. Louis and I love BBQ and have introduced the FI to good BBQ (he's from Maine). So that is what we are having. Half of our guests will be coming from the east coast, so it will be our way of showing them a bit of St. Louis.
I *love* Chick-fil-a but have lived far, far away from one for the last seven years.
Fortunately, there is one Chick-fil-a within an our of our destination wedding site. Our wedding coordinator is going to bring us Chick-fil-a nugget platters for our guests (and me!) to munch on during the cocktail hour.
And then, for dinner, we're doing a traditional New England lobsterbake with lobster, mussels, clams, corn on the cob, potatos, and clam chowder. Did I mention that my fiance and I *love* seafood?
when we started dating i could only make pasta and cheese sauce (i was 15) but I would make it for him and he loved it. We are havign our caterer make it as a side dish so our guests can enjoy it too!
My fiance is Vietnamese so some of his family and friends are making entrees to go along with the italian buffet we chose.
I know we'll have corn of some kind, popped and cob hopefully if everything works out. My dad jokes that I'm going to turn into a corn chip because I used to eat so many chips. FI has been known to eat garbag bag full of popcorn over a couple of days. I also used to eat popcorn constantly. FI loves Burgerville and asked me if we could have them cater our weddding, but I don't think that's going to happen. I think I'll plan a secret delivery for him and the boys before the wedding though while they are getting ready. Oh and he has to have Ketchup on everything so I'll make sure he has a bottle at our sweetheart table. I'm also considering ordering a case as part of his wedding present. haha. There will be chocolate and lots of sweets for me.
though my FI and i are 'foodies' a couple of our guilty pleasures are reubens and grilled ham and cheese sandwiches...so mini versions of those will be passed at our cocktail hour.
We will not have any special favorite food of ours at the wedding besides our candy table. That will consist of my FI and my favorite childhood candy.
I do know the only say I had for my shower is the kind of food I wanted. I chose Puerto Rican food. I absolutely love it and I don't get enough of it!
For the wedding we went with his favorite foods as a couple of our appetizers (Stuffed mushrooms and crab cakes)
absolutely. we're self-catering so it's pretty much entirely made up of favorite foods. we're having honey-baked ham (who doesn't like those?!) and a whole smoked turkey. I've already claimed a drumstick, but told my fiance he can share it with me (perhaps we will start a new wedding trend... feeding each other turkey leg instead of cake?). Also, caprese salad with fresh mozarella, granny smith apples, and some kick-ass cheese. And hummus. and mexican coca-cola. and maybe summer sausage. For dessert, german chocolate cake, brownies, and chocolate chip cookies (all made by me!) Things will either be made by me and the family or by costco :)
I love food.

I love all things culinary, so I'm wondering if anyone is featuring a favorite food of the bride and groom -- or a family recipe -- in any way for their wedding.
Pork is my favorite meat, so we're offering that option along with fish and pasta (as our veggie choice) for the wedding. We're also going to make gin and tonics -- Mr. MagPie and my signature summer drink -- a featured cocktail using a locally-produced gin called Bluecoat.
