Hello ladies! so a couple ladies commented on my post about how they were as far along as me (about 5 weeks) and I thuoght it'd be fun to start a board for those of us due in February and follow each other's journeys!
I am almost five weeks, due February 29, 2012. I am super tired, ravenously hungry and cramping. ugh. So I feel kinda icky, thankfully I'm too happy to really care! haha
and my husband is soo sweet and supportive. He is kissin my belly all the time now, making me food whenever I've hungry, cleanin the house. Such a sweetie! I'm so excited that he gets to be a daddy!
This is also my first! And i'm really excited because my sister is pregnant right now too! Our babies will be nearly 6 months apart! Soo psyched.
We're telling my family this weekend for our 4th of July celebration. EEEK!!!
How about you ladies?! What's your story :)
Hi! We have the same due date! Well, my doctor said I'm due March 1st but then I reminded her that it's leap year and she laughed and said, well, then I guess February 29th! Haha. This is also my first and I am thrilled beyond belief. DH is also being super sweet, also kissing my belly and stuff. I absolutely love it.
That's super fun that your sister is pregnant too! I have a few friends that are pregnant, but we are keeping it under wraps til about 12 weeks with most people, so I haven't told them yet. I can't wait to tell people (or to be 12 weeks!) We have told his parents and siblings but have not yet told mine... waiting to send them a gift to break the news. I can't wait, I'm dying to tell them!
I'm feeling pretty good, nausea off and on though (no vomiting yet so tolerable), tired, bb pain. But like you I'm too happy to care, in fact, I love the symptoms! AM however super nervous of miscarrying but trying to take things day by day.
So glad to be due date buddies!!!!
if I am preggo this month my due date will be feb 28th... I'm 11 dpo and feeling symptoms - tired, nauseous at night, suuuper dry mouth & thirsty, some cramping..... testing tomorrow morning!
I see my family Doctor tomorrow to confirm, but the pee sticks were positive two weeks ago. I used a bunch of different online calculators and I got dates between Feb 20th and 24th. My Mom insists its the 27th though because when she was pregnant they said your due date was 9 months from the date of your last period plus seven days: May 20th-Feb 20th-Feb 27th. I can't wait to see what the doctor says tomorrow. I'll use whatever date she says as our due date.
I'm kinda hoping that we'll have a leap day baby since first babies are usually late.
@AvantLaLettre: So far I haven't had any nausea but I'm sure it's not far off! We are telling my family my weekend during our July 4th get together, then skyping his parents (they live in another state). We have our extended family get together also so we'll tell people there. But I'm definitely going to avoid putting it on facebook for now. I want to make sure I tell everyone in person that I need to first so I don't offend anyone!!
To tell my family we're making "birthday invites" hehe, it'll say you're invited to a birthday for baby! then our due date :) I think it'll be super cute. I can't wait, so excited!!
Isn't it so hard to wait?! Like I feel like I should, but my family has a great history of pregnancies so I'm not too worried - and I try not to be worried.. 7 weeks seems sooo long to wait to tell people! haha.
@smileyd: I'm torn about leap year! I mean it is my due date, but what's the likelihood of actually delivering that day right?! My husband loves it, because he's Irish and it's this big Irish luck thing. I think it might be confusing for our baby's birthday! haha they'll only get a real birthday every four years!!
@miss-spunkin: thats part of why I love the idea. I'm part Irish too, thats where the smiley comes from.
I've never known a leap year kid, but I figure its a great way to make celebrations special.
so have any of you ladies started entertaining any baby names yet?!?!
@miss-spunkin: We think we've chosen both a boys and a girls name. We actually chose them a year before we started trying. Who knows what will happen when we see it?
Boy- Henry Arthur
Girl- Helen Katherine
Both are named for a grandparent of each of us.
@smileyd: those are gorgeous! I love the name Henry, it's so.. regal, and manly. Such a classic.
Helen is another elegent, classic name.
Very pretty!
If we have a boy it'll be Asher Daniel Stephen. I am a Christian and I love the story and meaning of Asher, it means happy! The mother was sooo happy to finally have her baby! Daniel and Stephen are named for the grandads. My hubby and I decided that the middle names will be family names and we choose the first names.
For a girl we are so undecided!
We love:
McKenna, Zoey, Blaire, Gemma, Adelaide, Emmaray and Adalynne (Lynne is spelled like that for my mother). Some have meaning, like McKenna is Irish for my hubby's heritage, and others we love the sound.
But we have 8 months to decide!!
We have some ideas of names but aren't positive yet! Are you ladies noticing yourselves pay attention to every little thing and hope it's "okay"? Ugh. I am driving myself nuts! So silly.
Is this your first too, @smileyd?
Is this everyone's regular screen name, too? I am a regular bee in hiding for pregnancy stuff.
I have mixed feelings on a leap baby. It's fun enough to think it's exiting that it's when I'm due, but i really wouldn't want a baby to have that birthday if it can be helped. My best friend growing up's brother was born on leap day in '96. I remember it so well. I thought it was cool then but it's kind of not so cool that you don't get to have your "actual" birthday every year, IMO!
Hi, I am due on Feb. 19! It was so hard to keep it a secret from the hive! I wanted to wait until my doc confirmed it. I know that if we have a boy, we will name him after my hubby. If we have a girl, I only have her middle name picked out.
@AvantLaLettre: haha yeah I'm not in "hiding" but I made sure I took my picture down until I tell me family, just in case :)
and yes I am!! haha I am so tired and hungry and got a little cranky this morning! lol but I am reading tons of books! I used to be a nanny and am super close with my nanny mom. I told her yesterdayn she gave me three books and lots of info! She is my go-to to make sure everything is normal! haha. She said she was sooo tired too and it's totally normal. I'm so happy I have so many knowledgeable moms around me to help :) esp since I'm so young (21!)
@miss-spunkin: Oh wow, you're 21! Lucky you! I'm jealous :) I'm 29 but I'm pretty pumped to still be 29 when the baby is born, too. Haha. What books are you reading? While only 1 of my friends has a baby so far, alll of DH's do. Once we tell them I'm sure I'll be given plenty of info! I did tell my 1 friend with a baby because she also told me when she was literally like a week pregnant. She gave me lots of books. Specifically, the Joy of Pregnancy, Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs, Pacify Me (for dads!), and a bunch of baby name books. I can't get my hands on enough books it seems!
I've been tired but I haven't been as tired as everyone says you are. I guess it's still early... plus, I'm not complaining!
@AvantLaLettre: I'm so happy you're a book reader too! I am finding more and more how uncommon we are, it's so sad! :(
While we were TTC I read Dr. Sear's "The Baby Book" and "Attachment Parenting" there were soo good! and really helpful and informative. It taught me a lot about attachment parenting; baby wearing, sleeping with baby, breastfeeding - etc and I decided I definitely want to try that approach. It has a lot of medical benefits. There are a lot of great ideas he has for working moms too! (not sure what your situation will be once you have your baby).I was so happy when my hubby picked up "attachment parenting" without me asking and read over half the book! He loves all the ideas and is totally on board! I'm soo excited that he'll be such an instrumental part of my pregnancy and motherhood. He'll be a great daddy.
How does you DH feel about having a baby?!
Haha well my husband is 26, and when we got married last year, he wanted to start right away! but I wanted to at least finish my AA degree. He asked to start before he turned 30, and I agreed. I got baby fever quicker than I thought! I feel like I "grew up" quicker than my friends.
my nanny mom also gave me "Eating Expectantly" which is really helpful to find a good diet! As well as "The Pregnancy Book" by Dr. Sears (loving his books!) She also gave me "The Naturally Healthy Pregnancy" by Shonda Parker, but I haven't started reading it yet.
@trugem: YES! I am too! http://www.bananapeelsdiapers.com/catalog.php?item=786, http://www.sweetbottomsbaby.com/Flip-One-Size-Diaper-Cover_p_71.html
These are my favorite so far! I like the kind with inserts because you can resuse the diaper and just wash the insert. It looks easy and clean!
How about you? Do you have any favorites?
http://allaboutclothdiapers.com/
That was my resource, lots of good reviews!
@miss-spunkin: I like the AIO with inserts. I will either choose the AIO or the AIO with inserts. I may get both.
I'm totally on board with cloth diapers. I think I've got DH convinced too. The only concern I have is that our washer/dryer are pretty old, they work perfectly fine but I feel like we should get new ones if we get cloth diapers, and that adds a lot of money. I'm not sure about that but almost positive about going cloth! Will probably be simple and get Bum Genius AIO's. We'll see... I figure I'll start researching it more thoroughly when I'm a lot further along.
@miss-spunkin: DH is thrilled! We've been ready for awhile, just waiting for a few things to fall into place.
So nice to get a group of us going so early on!
@AvantLaLettre: Definitely our first! It's very exciting and scary at the same time.
Had my first appointment yesterday with my doctor (My family doctor happens to also be an OB/GYN, so yay!).
We talked about when was my last period and went over the first few pages of my new file. She filled out the requisition form for my Ultrasound at 20 weeks (because here in NS, you only get one), and the request for bloodwork. I get my blood taken this week anywhere I want , so we're going saturday. On our way out, we set up our 12 week appointment, when we hopefully get to hear Timbits heartbeat.
It's starting to feel real!
Yay! It doesn't feel terribly real to me yet. I go for bloodwork and "intake" Wednesday, then an ultrasound the following wednesday, then first doctors appointment the following wednesday. I'm sure after that it will start to feel real. I can't wait... this is all so exciting :) i just hope all goes well, it's super scary being so early.
smileyd and AvantLaLettre - how did you guys choose your doctor's?
Confession: I've never had a real "woman" appointment, meaning I haven't ever visited an ObGYN for anything other than getting a birth control prescription. And I have no doctor. The last time I went to the doctor was when I was 18 and I was still seeing a pediatrician! ahhhh!!!
Did you guys interview your doctor?
I have a very "natural" view towards birth. I don't want any drugs, I don't want to be induced, I will avoid c-section at ALL COSTS, I want to have a water birth so help with the pain/squatting position is easier to deliver etc etc, after the baby is born, I want to hold my baby RIGHT away and have that special "bonding" moment. I don't want them to have an immunizations, shots, etc. Which is why I'll probably be giving birth in a birth center (visiting next Saturday!!). And they do prenatal care, but they're also an out-of-network provider. So it will be REALLY expensive to go every month. Which is why I'm considering just doing prenatal care in an in-network clinic. But I'm afraid I won't be able to find a doctor with birth philosophies like mine!
Ooh I'm not sure how easy it will be to find an MD whose philosphy is in line with yours but who knows! Maybe you could! It might actually be equally important to find a hospital that will let you do water birth, move around in labor, etc. You also have to keep in mind that sometimes emergencies happen and you'll want to have a plan for what you want in those situations. I'm not well-versed in this stuff yet clearly but I bet if you start interviewing you'll find someone you like.
I found my doc based on a friend's recommendation. She raved about her, so I set up a pre-conception visit, fell head over heels in love with her! (THAT is what a doctor should be like!) and signed on the dotted line! (and PS- I had an OBGYN in my hometown who I loved but I've since moved and never found a great one here. So glad I found this doc!)
@AvantLaLettre: Well that is why I chose a birth center. They do all-natural births, attended by midwives, they offer water births, basically whatever they can to make the birth comfortable. The only thing is, there are only 2 birth centers in my state, and the one I'll be using is over an hour away. Which is fine for when I give birth (we're in labor for like 20 hours anyway right ;)), but it makes prenatal hard, and like I said, it's out of network, so most likely, expensive as well. Of course the birth center has everything they need in case of an emergency as well, but I do know from research that most "emergencies" occur as a result of drugs like epidurals and pitocin. You should watch Pregnant in America, it is sooo good! It's a documentary.
Yeah, I will ask for some recommendations, but since we haven't told anyone I can't ask yet and I'm anxious to get started and have things scheduled!!
@miss-spunkin: Easy, she's my family doctor. I've been going to the same practice sincer my mom was pregnant with me, albeit, she wasn't my doctor way back then.
@miss-spunkin: True, I only asked my friend long before I got pregnant so that's how I got her doc's name :) Yeah a birth center does sound like the best place for you! That's too bad it will not be covered. Hmmm.. I wonder if you could find a doc who'd be covered but willing to deliver at a birth center? Or is that non-existent? Well, good luck and keep us posted!
hi ladies, wondering if i can join you? im not due til around March 7th though (gues im right around 4 weeks) but i figure its prety close to Febuary. i just found out today! im so beyond excited!it still doesnt feel real to me. its crazy! my symptoms are just very light cramps (is that normal??) and super sniffer, smells smell horrible. everything SMELLS bad. urghh. I am starting to get a little sick after i eat certain things but other then that i feel kinda normal... Its all still so surreal
Congratulations!! Of course you can join us! I'm technically not due til march 1st either but since it's leap year my doc was like, oh, well, either one! (feb 29 or march 1). She might be more definitive when I get an ultrasound or have an appointment. I think your symptoms are normal. I myself haven't really had any cramps besides minor lower back pain but I have heard/read a lot about cramps in the first few weeks being normal. I agree that it is very surreal and in fact I feel like it won't feel real until I see the little bugger on a screen. I'm also very worried about miscarrying, not sure why so worried, but I guess that's normal too. I'm also a worrier so there ya go. Anyway, welcome again!! YAY!
Of course! You could be early, or any of us could be late, so I think its fair.
Thanks ladies! Im sure i will have tons of questions lol since this is my first baby :) this is so exciting, esp since we will all be expiereincing the same things around the same time. kinda cool! im glad i have some girls to tallk to, most of my friends dont have babies yet ( a couple do but not really super close to them) so this is nice. I have been reading what to expect when your expecting but im prob gonna get some other books to, i love to read
. I havent really wrapped my mind out that im pregnant yet. lol.
@avantlaletter: i hear ya about the misscarrying. im so afraid of that also, its one of my biggest fears. I totally understand where your coming from. Were only telling close family/ maybe 2 friends until after the first trimester.
Is this everyones first baby?
@stargal34: it's our first, I don't know about the other ladies.
K I have no idea when my due date is... I am still trying to find a doctor over the holiday weekend for cryin in the night!! But wanted to join you ladies.
So the flakey skin is no joke... woke up this morning with big boobs and a flakey face : /
@stargal34: lot's of firsts!! It's my first too.
How old are you? (if you don't mind me asking) - I'm 21 and AvantLaLettre is 29. I think it's cool to hear the different ages women choose to have their first baby :)
and YES cramping is totally normal. My fourth-fifth week (basically the first week I found out I was pregnant) I had cramping like crazy. At first I thought it was menstrual crampings, til it didn't come. But it's normal because the baby is attaching to the uterine wall, and the development of the placenta begins, so that's why it hurts.
I have been reading like crazy too! Glad to hear someone else is an avid reader. I love knowing what's going on haha.
I am really liking The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears, as well as his "Baby Book". Both are very good. A friend of mine gave me "Eating Expectantly" which helped with the diet of being pregnant. Somewhat unrelated to pregnancy, but I am also reading "The Green Smoothie Revolution" which is REALLY good! Since being pregnant, I've been drinking a green smoothie every morning to help me with my folic acid intake (super important for pregnancy!!). So I recommend those :):)
Can I join too?? Based on what I figured out online, my due date is March 12th! I went in to the urgent care center today for a blood test and will find out all the details tomorrow when the blood results are back. I didn't realize they take a whole vile of blood from your arm vein. Ouch! I guess I better get used to that :/
Who have you told yet? Right now only my DH and I know. I am going to tell my parents soon, but I kind of like having it a secret. If this is anything like our wedding planning, my mom is going to go cookoo bonkers bananas over everything and I'm not in the mood for it.
How are you ladies feeling? I am SO BLOATED! We didn't do anything over the holiday weekend as we are going out of town next weekend to celebrate our first anniversary, so it wasn't as though I binged on food and wine, but I seriously have never been this bloated before. Ugh.
