I am tentatively a Feb 2015 bride.  We’re pretty sure that’s going to be the date (we have to accomodate a huge number of overseas guests, many with kids – this is their spring break week.)

We have nothing booked.  Heck, he hasn’t officially proposed yet.  We just sent his sisters an email asking them to check the school calendars for their respective countries. 😛

We have chosen a venue, providing it’s available for the date we want.  We know the colours (he actually chose them, fine with me, I was on board with it.  And really, most of what we’ve decided was my first choice.)  There are plans in place for group airline tickets, a shuttle from the airport, the rehersal, flowers (my cousin is a bridal florist, she will be doing them – I’m giving her creative license), the officiants (we’re having 3.  A couple I’ve known for ages, they’re ministers and his uncle is actually a priest), dinner/bar options are chosen – we’ve looked at menus.  I have a pretty good idea of the style dress I’ll be wearing.

*ETA:  We have to seriously set a budget.  He is clueless when it comes to the cost of things.  He nearly fell off the couch when he saw the cost per guest for the reception.  The guest list needs to be culled.  We have way too many, but it was the first draft.

Yay!  We are date twins.

Since that post was written we’ve formalized the date.  We’ve also sorted a lot of the details.  Tomorrow we’re going to check out the venue (it’s a resort, we’re actually going away for a mid-week getaway.) We have a 2nd choice, it’s not as rustic as I want.  I fell in love with our venue (I’ve been there before a number of times – it’s a ski resort.  We’re both skiers but he’s never been there) because it has this gorgeous wood ceiling with exposed beams.  We are not ballroom people.  The 2nd venue is another resort, its gorgeous, but its more formal than I envision.  It’s also very, very reasonably priced, given we’re marrying on a Sunday in the winter.  So I’m hoping the first choice will come in around the same costs.

When are you ladies going dress shopping?  I have timelined out everything for the wedding, as I am totally Type A, and I’ve decided to wait until Feb 2014.  I’d go tomorrow if I could!

ETA: Disregard, I missed that you already have your dress!  Exciting!  What did you choose?

  • Wedding: March 2015

We’re getting married on February 7th. Originally, we planned for March, but the church we chose will not allow a wedding during Lent.

We have our church, our venue, chose our photographer (a close friend), did half of our engagement photos (with another friend…family wants photos), I will be baking our cake (I have a degree in pastry arts), chose our colors, started “getting in wedding shape” (aka, continuing the weight loss I’ve been working on for months prior to engagement). We will be doing a lot of diy, and having our wedding as budget friendly as possible.

I’m very excited that our venue has a fire place, because it will be February in Cleveland, not exactly a warm time of year.

We’re getting married in Feb 2015 but we don’t have a date yet since our venue only books a year out.  On feb 1st, we’re marching down to the venue to book it. It’s a beautiful rustic brewery, with stone walls and wood beams overhead. So far, we have decided on the venue, compiled a rough guestlist, got pricing for having our own wine made and beer brewed and will be meeting with a caterer next week. We also found centerpieces and are going to start making those slowly. We picked our bridal party and I think I’m going to start dress shopping this winter. I thought I was seriously jumping the gun but it looks like you guys are just as eager as me! At least we’ll be able to take our time with the planning!

@Catcat1:  oooooo you should go see some dresses.

I work in a bridal boutique as a consultant, and it’s so lovely seeing brides start their journey.

I found my dress when there was just less than two year to my wedding! and i love it even more than i did when i found it! I just hate being rushed, and the more time you have to pick your dress, the better! In my opinion, anyway.

Good luck with all your planning! and enjoy every minute of it! xx

@yayimengaged:  This is what we have planned out so far.

2013 – create mega guest list (we’ll cut from here if required), set budget, get engaged! YAY!

Jan 2014 – book venue (done, finally), book room blocks at 2 hotels (venue and nearby hotel), create wedding website, youtube channel, flickr account, email address (done), create save-the-date video, book florist (done – because she happens to be my cousin), started dress shopping – BMs, MOB, Bride (I bought my dress at a sample sale, so surprised it worked out!), choose and ask wedding party (done), both of us joined weight watchers to get to our goal wedding weights, created timeline for day of (subject to change, but its pretty detailed and I’m super type A.)

Feb 2014 – gather email addresses together for save the dates, send save the date video via email, book photographer

March – search out and book officiant and DJ, book bridal suite, rooms for bridal party at the hotel, book spa space for make up, harpist?  (still up in the air if we’re having one.)

April – create, print and address invitationsm, create registry

May – hand deliver out of country guests invitations (we will be overseas for the last time before the wedding), buy bridesmaids gifts/jewellery while overseas (I want them to have a part of his country on the day of the wedding).

June – locate and purchase wooden skis (our version of a guest book)

July – engagement photos (if I can convince him to do them)

August –

September – RSVP deadline for out of country guests

October – send out invitations for domestic guests, discuss flowers with florist, order BM dresses, MOB dress, Tuxs, Begin working on thank you gifts (chocolate lollipops – ordering, gingerbread bride and grooms – baking at home.)

November -purchase accessories (however, it’s likely they will be done loooong before this!), meet with officiant to work on ceremony, book rehersal dinner space, RSVP deadline for domestic guests (trying to beat the Xmas insanity), book honeymoon

December – buy video camera (we have a family member who is going to take some video… we’re supplying the camera), finish bridal party gifts, bachelorette party, any final purchases for things like OOT bags, DIYs, centrepieces, order chocolate lollipops.

January 2015  – hair trial/make up trial, finalize flowers, centrepieces, music selections with DJ, finalize menu with venue, finalize DIYs (menu cards, escort cards, table #s, seating chart, (likely shower thank you cards)

Feb 2015 – hair highlights, pedicures, manicures pre-wedding and rehersal, final touches, final confirmation with vendors on timeline, etc. Wedding! Honeymoon!

March 2015 – thank you cards, photo books for parents (once photos have come back – this might be much later.)

There are likely things I’ve forgotten.  The summer is crazy for me at work, so I tried to avoid having to do anything over the summer months.  And we tried to work around Christmas as much as we could – either to use the sales to our advantage or to avoid people forgetting about us in the insanity that is the holidays (RSVPs, etc.)
