I think you guys need to have a serious sit-down conversation about finances and budget. You should together decide on what’s appropriate to spend on a wedding and stay firm. It’s important for you to learn to say no, and for her to learn to accept that she can’t have everything she wants.

People can only take advantage of you to the extent that you let them.

Whe you decide you’ve had enough, you need to speak up and draw a line or you will be dealing with this  throughout your relationship.

@FIFEDUP:  It’s never too late to call it off or at least postpone the wedding if you feel you need “out of this”.

Yes, it would be embarassing and you will lose some money, but better than losing yourself.

@FIFEDUP:  You said that you’ve never felt so taken advantage of until now, but what about her behavior? Has she always been this way, or is it new behavior since you started planning the wedding?

You need to sit and have a serious converstaion about this. If you let your FI control this aspect of your life (with it upsetting you and she has failed to notice just how much it is) then you might as well not bother with the wedding at all….I would think BOTH of your WEDDING is the least time that you would want to hold resentment for your future wife. Sitting in silence is when problems start.

It will only get worse. At the very least, postpone the wedding. I love my best friend to death, but your FI sounds like she did at her wedding. She spent way more than they should have because she had to have her way. She ended up putting them in debt, now they are divorced and their house is in foreclosure. Don’t let that be you.

@FIFEDUP:  You’re welcome. Good luck to you. You deserve more.
