If I knew I was going to book with them I probably wouldn’t have an issue since it was going towards the price of the cake, but I still think that’s a little silly.. We didn’t have to pay for ours. They gave us 5 different cupcakes and even free drinks and our consultation was a good hour.. hour and a half. I knew I was going to book our cake place though. I tried their cake at a bridal show and it was the best cake I’ve ever had.

@MsGinkgo:  no we didn’t. we didn’t go to that many locations, but I’ve never heard of a tasting fee with any of my friends during their wedding experiences.

Tasting fees are certainly not unheard of. I’ve never heard of it being a separate charge from the cake though – meaning if you booked with them, then the tasting fee just went towards the cost of the cake.

We didn’t have to pay for a consultation or tasting though, which was nice.

We didn’t have to pay a fee at any of our tastings. I’ve heard of a tasting fee before, but in our area none of the bakeries charge it so we didn’t have to worry about it.

@MsGinkgo:  I think as long as it is credited, no biggie, like you said. I didn’t realize you were in Mississauga! We are practically neighbours 😉

I tasted quite a bit of cake and didn’t pay for any of it.  Don’t know that I would have had an issue with it as much as catering (it’s a few $100 order vs a few $1000 that you could be losing $10 on each client that didn’t book).
